OK, we usually don't serve up many of Georgia's Olympic sports for your Coffee during football season.
But hey, it's Kentucky week ... And I did find this interesting ...
Georgia's volleyball team will face rival Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Stegeman Coliseum rather than its usual home base at the Ramsey Center.
This will be the first volleyball match at Stegeman since the 1996 Olympic Games.
With the exception of Florida, the SEC has never been a national power in women's volleyball, a sport traditionally dominated by Pac 12 and Big Ten programs. Georgia, in particular, hasn't enjoyed much success in volleyball for a while now, but there have been positive signs in this the second season under Coach Lizzy Stemke (pictured above).
The Bulldogs are 11-7 and 5-4 in the SEC after winning two matches this past weekend.
That's a substantial improvement from last season's 11-19 (7-13 SEC) mark and the 15-17 (6-14) finish of the year before, prior to Stemke's hire.
UGA is currently in fifth place in the SEC East, but Missouri, Tennessee and Kentucky are tied for second with a 6-3 record.
Georgia Tech trails the all-time series with Georgia 21-13 in volleyball, but the Yellow Jackets haven't lost to the Bulldogs since 2005. This year's Georgia Tech team carries a 14-5 record.
Per UGA Sports Communications, the first 1,000 fans Tuesday night will receive a free “Wreck Tech” shirt. Fans will also be able to enter a drawing for free tickets to the Georgia/Georgia Tech football game.
