It's not quite "Midnight Madness," but Georgia's basketball programs have committed to a special event to tip off the start of preseason practice.
Friday from 7-10 p.m. will bring Georgia's "Basketbash" at Stegeman Coliseum.
"We can't start (practice) until 5 o'clock on Friday," UGA coach Mark Fox said, "so 'Basketbash' is really going to be a chance for us to really be together for the first time as a group. So we kind of sacrificed our practice to have some fun. But the fact that we were able to have the summer with them and have the foreign tour, we're ahead of where we ever would have been at this point before."
Teams will be introduced to fans with a special effects presentation.
The UGA men's team will have a few drills and a scrimmage at one point in the evening, while the UGA women are planning to hold a 3-point contest with students.
Festivities will be hosted by Atlanta Hawks announcer Ryan Cameron and include a performance by comedian Dan Ahdoot beginning at 9:15 p.m.
Events will also include: Simon Sez with students, halfcourt shoot for tuition, Name That Tune with the Pep Band, a dance contest and more.
Planned perks include autographs, T-Shirts, face-painting, balloon artists, food and drinks.
"Friday is going to be fun," Fox said. "We've had the remodeling on the outside of the arena. This is really the first opportunity for us to do it and do it right. So it'll be a fun evening for fans, students, lots of activities. But we're going to play. ... I don't know how long we'll play, but we'll have a half-hour on the court where we can hopefully do some things."

Georgia's final practice of the bye week will be Thursday before the team breaks for the weekend. Practice will be closed to the media with no interviews afterward.
