Georgia cornerback Sanders Commings used to strive to emulate former two-sport star Deion Sanders.

"But I guess I've got to be Sanders Commings," he says with a smile.

As it stands now, Commings is looking at the end of his baseball career. The former MLB draft pick is planning to focus on a professional sports career after this season, but it's to be football, not baseball.

"I think I'll just start training for the NFL Combine and all that stuff," Commings said Tuesday. "So I'm putting baseball on hold now. I'm probably done with it."

A star outfielder in his hometown of Augusta, Commings hinted around about the idea of joining Georgia's baseball team for much of his playing career in Athens, even going so far as to participate in January workouts with the Diamond Dogs.

But there was always spring football to think about -- and a starting role with Mark Richt's Bulldogs.

"By the time that ended," Commings said, "they were halfway through their (baseball) season over there, so I was like, 'There's no point in me trying to get back in the mix.' ... If I would have been over there doing baseball then who knows where I'd be with football."

Commings says if a MLB team drafted him he would consider his options but only "if they were willing to work with the NFL team."

He said he has no regrets about the football-heavy path he's now traveling.

"I'm liking the way things are working out for me right now," Commings said. "I don't have any regrets about not playing baseball."
