Instead, the Bulldogs went swimming at the Ramsey Center.
The announcement was made just now to the team in the locker room, drawing an enormous response and cheer that shook the walls in the floor above at the Butts-Mehre building.
“You think of a way that you can get the emotion of it," Mark Richt said. "You’ve got to do it on a day where they’re missing practice. You’ve got to do it on a day like today. Today was scheduled to be a 20-period, physical, fundamental day. Those are the days where if you get out of a day like that, they’re excited. So we want them to really feel like they’re getting something out of this thing, and I think we got them pretty good.”
This has been something of a tradition around UGA's program under Richt, though the Bulldogs did not do it during the preseason last year, instead opting to go during the bye week later in the season.
