ATHENS, Ga. -- Welcome to Georgia Tech week (and also Thanksgiving) at the Butts-Mehre. Things got started Monday with team meetings and a light practice and will pick up today.

Tuesday's media day festivities begin at noon with Mark Richt's weekly press conference. Practice will follow around 3:30 p.m. or so, and there will be interviews spaced out through the afternoon and evening, including assistant coaches later.

"I'm very impressed with this senior bunch. They really wanted to take some ownership of this team. ... Once they all decided to stay, I think it created energy immediately for those guys and the team.

Richt says Paul Johnson has seen "everything under the sun" as far as defenses trying to stop his offense and he knows how to answer that ...

Richt complimenting Branden Smith for being "more physical in his defending of the pass and his defending of the run."
"He's become a very physical guy in that way. He plays the screens much better. ... He's just tenacious as a defenders. I've seen a big improvement with him over this career. He's become a really fine player."

Richt does admit that he watched K-State coach Bill Snyder's interview after the Baylor loss when Snyder said he didn't think he handled situation (and the attention) well enough ...
"In my opinion, he was not going to throw anybody under the bus and he was taking responsibility for the loss. ... It was mostly as head coach being man enough to say, 'Put that on me. Don't put it on those kids.'
"I was impressed with him as man and as a coach."

"Coach Friend has really been a blessing. He came in and first of all works very well with Coach Bobo and the rest of the offensive staff. He understands team ... But he's a very good technician. He knows what he talks about ... He's good at figuring out these guys and what works with them and doesn't work as far as motivation."
