Georgia is expected to name UAB's Will Friend as the Bulldogs' new offensive line coach, multiple sources tell Dawgs247.
Barring an unforeseen, last-minute snag in the negotations process, Friend is headed to Athens to join Mark Richt's coaching staff after four seasons as offensive line coach at UAB.
A deal could be finalized with an official announcement as early as Monday.
Friend emerged as a leading candidate to replace Stacy Searels, who recently left UGA to join the staff at Texas.
A former offensive guard at the University of Alabama in the 1990s, Friend coached at UAB under Blazers head coach Neil Callaway, who previous served as Richt's offensive line coach in Athens. Prior to that, Friend spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at UGA, helping coach the offensive line under the directon of Callaway, Richt and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.
Friend is a native of Philadelphia, Miss. He earned his degree from the University of Alabama in 1998.
