Georgia's 2014 signing class got back rolling in a big way Monday with a commitment from one of the nation's top defensive line prospects.
Dontavious Russell of Carrollton (Ga.) High School confirmed that he has committed to UGA over a number of SEC and ACC programs, including Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, FSU and South Carolina.
“Coach (Mark) Richt and Coach (Chris) Wilson were very excited," Russell said, "and they both told me they want me there."
What stood out for Russell enough to commit early to the Bulldogs?
“It was just everything about it," he said. "Every time I would leave there I would not have a bad thought about that place. I just felt comfortable there. ... Every time I talked to Coach Richt in his office, I knew I wanted to be there."
247Sports rates the 6-foot-3, 300-pound Russell as a four-star prospect and a 96 on its scale, making him the nation's No. 66 overall recruit for 2012 and the fifth-best prospect in the state of Georgia.
Russell becomes the fourth listed commitment currently for Georgia's 2014 class and the first since November.
