Jenkins clears up the NFL question

TAMPA, Fla. -- Georgia junior nose tackle John Jenkins confirmed Friday morning that he will indeed return for his senior season.

John Jenkins at Georgia

"That's it," Jenkins said. "I just wanted to go through the process. You never know until you do it where you stand."

Jenkins told Dawgs247 late in the regular season but hedged on that stance earlier this week in Tampa, saying he would consider the NFL based on his draft grade. Jenkins said he has not yet aware of his grade from the NFL Draft advisory board, but Friday's comments cleared up his plans.

Apparently, so did word from linebacker Jarvis Jones, who told reporters from other media outlets during Wednesday's interview session that Jenkins was certain to be back.

Asked if Jones' statement was accurate, Jenkins said Friday that it was.

"Yeah, he's right. He's right," Jenkins said. "That's my guy. J.J. and I, we're roommates. We're going to try to do it up big next year, man."

So everyone can stop being concerned with Jenkins' NFL decision?

"Yes," he said.

TAMPA, Fla. --After seemingly hedging from his previous stance in recent comments, Georgia's John Jenkins confirms that he will indeed return for his senior season.

That news will make my afternoon much better for sure! C'mon back Juniors and let's go win this thing next year. We have questions on the OL next year, but should have enough healthy bodies to get a solid two deep to get it done.

      • The Dawgs will be a much better team next year having both JJs playing.

Not that we didn't need Jarvis Jones to return (thankfully he never even considered not doing so) as he's our obvious defensive leader, I was really worried about who we were going to have to rotate in with Kwame Geathers at nose with Big John gone.

With both KG and John Jenkins now confirmed as our NGs next year, Georgia's defense against the run next year should again be stout.

I'm glad both JJs decided to forego an early exit to the pros. Now I guess it's wait and see on the others. But I will admit, of all those considering an early exit, thinking of not having big John Jenkins as one of our NGs, worried me the most.

Maybe we'll get other similar good news soon.

Looks good to me. Off hand, I could see Swann making a real run at a starting spot. Same for Ray Drew.

Plenty of time to dissect next year's depth chart, and I'm sure I'll do plenty of it before September.

what i like is that we're two deep almost everywhere--depth, talent, and experience make for a pretty nasty defense. if rambo comes back and if we can get sanders commings to get some work on the juggs machine, we could be about as good as there is in 2012.

                        Bacarri Rambo 4th year

Talk about an experienced bunch of men on defense.
If Garrison Smith holds onto his position, it will be 2 starters not in their 4th or 5th years in college.
Add in that this will be our third year in the system, and this defense can be nasty.

I definitely think we'll feel the loss of Brandon Boykin. One player won't be able to replace all of the things he did for our defense (lots of blitzing from the slot plus a solid CB).
But we should be improved in many other areas of the defense.
And that is flat out scary.

DT Abry Jones and rotation of G Smith, C Washington, and R Drew
OLB Jarvis Jones and rotation of C Washington and R Drew
ILB Alec Ogletree and rotation of Mike Gilliard, Herrerra, and Robinson (I don't think Gilliard's specialty is pass coverage).

Covering the slot receiver is the question. With his quickness, I wouldn't be surprised to see Branden Smith as the guy to blitz from the slot. He may get more action here in the nickel against a pass oriented team than at corner like Boykin did.

Against a more run heavy spread, I could see Commings getting the nod (bigger frame to get off a block and try to stuff the run).

Hopefully, it's Rambo and Williams at safety. But I can't complain if Bacarri takes the leap and Moore is there starting.
