Mansell: Friday night notes on Valdosta Duo

Malcolm Mitchell continues to impress on both sides of the ball.

Let me just say I have Malcolm Mitchell ranked as the No. 3 prospect in Georgia right now. After seeing him tonight, I would rank him no worse than No. 2. He is one of the most explosive players in the South. Tonight he made a ton of plays on offense and defense.

I spoke with Mitchell after the game, and he said no one leads for him, but I am hearing otherwise from people I trust. Speaking to several people in and around the Valdosta program tonight, most feel Alabama has a good lead for him right now over Georgia.

Mitchell did say he would take official visits to Georgia, Florida and Alabama before deciding, and he did not think he would be committing at the Under Armour Game as he has stated in the past. Georgia will have him on campus next week for the Georgia Tech game.

Jay Rome had a very big night catching the ball and blocking. I watched the game with several high school coaches, and everyone was very impressed with his blocking skills. He will be in Athens next weekend with Mitchell, and I continue to hear the Dogs are in good shape with him. He also said he would take visits and now does not think he will commit at the Under Armour game. He said he will do it sometime in January.
