Morning Coffee: Simply the best

Wednesday, May 11

News of the exit for tailback and 2010 leading rusher Washaun Ealey has added even more expectations onto freshman signee Isaiah Crowell for next season.

When you're talking about a touted running back stepping in immediately at Georgia, thoughts naturally go back to perhaps the best college running back in history.

It's a phrase heard too often around Georgia: "The next Herschel."

But let's get real: There may never be another Herschel Walker -- at UGA or anywhere else.

A reminder is needed sometimes to recall just how special he was during his time in Athens ...

-- UGA's team went 33-3 and won an SEC title during each of Walker's three seasons (1980-82).

-- Walker still holds the three best rushing seasons in UGA history. He went 1,616--1,891--1,752 in yards during his three years. His career total of 5,239 yards (in three seasons) is more than 2,000 yards ahead of Garrison Hearst (3,232 in three seasons), who is in second place on UGA's all-time list.

-- By comparison, South Carolina's Marcus Lattimore rushed for 1,197 yards last season to win SEC freshman of the year honors. In winning the Heisman Trophy the year before, Alabama's Mark Ingram reached 1,658 rushing yards in 14 games. Each of Walker's three seasons involved 12 games.

-- Auburn's Bo Jackson had 4,303 career rushing yards in four seasons of college football.

-- Walker gained 100 yards in 11 of 12 games during the 1981 season. As a senior in 1982, he did it in 10 out of 12 games.

-- Walker had nine games in his career with at least 200 rushing yards, including four as a freshman. No other player in UGA history produced more than one 200-yard game.

-- Remarkably durable as well, Walker's 994 career carries is an NCAA record.

TWEET(S) OF THE DAY

Admittedly giddy to be back on Twitter after a year long hiatus... My last tweet was exactly 366 days ago. People still use Twitter right?

UGA forward Connor Nolte, who like the rest of the Bulldogs' basketball team had been banned from Twitter by Coach Mark Fox.
