great dawg treats.. awesome.
Awesome report. I know we get the glowing reports yearly on team chemistry and who is showing out and I have been following on message boards since 97 but this year stands out. One thing I have almost always seen in the years of obsessing over this stuff and that is if there is a ton of chatter going on about a player then 99 percent of the time if healthy that player really stands out when it matters. The ones that come to mind over the years are Quincy Carter, Terrence Edwards, AJ Green, Charles Grant, Knowshon Moreno, and Robert Edwards. The flip side is some times it takes a while for a player to come into his own for sure but the real superstars usually create chatter immediately.
If you had asked me a month ago to write a report on best case scenario Dawg Treats on August 14th this may be it. I am reffering to the on field stuff not recruiting. Recruiting is going to be down in 2012 but if we can somehow put together a 10-2 type year and really re-establish the brand all of that will work itself out.
2 things we needed most on offense besides health coming in was someone to step up at WR not to replace AJ but to somehow take pressure off the run game and TE like we saw AJ do last year when he came back. Brown appears to be doing this along with Mitchell who may do like Fred Gibson and start a little slow but by game 4 or 5 really start making plays.
The other thing was that Crowell be all we hoped and that appears to be happening.
On defense what we needed the most was a NG to step up. It appears KG is picking up where he left off and that Jenkins is still adjusting but has the tools to be a player.
The other thing was we needed Jarvis Jones to be eligable and someone else to step up at OLB. I am still not sold at all on Washington at the other spot but thank the Lord we dont have to worry about Jones being able to play. That had 2 game suspension written all over it with our past luck but our luck has really started to change.
So I guess the only real question I have now is exactly how many OLB positions do the Tide plan on playing in the future. Considering they are apparently taking 50 in the net class to go with the 50 or so they are taking in this class.
Great write up guys. Curious if you've heard anything about that Agholor rumor that the guy on LHB seems so confident about?
I know crowell has been tearing it up in practice latley, but yet CMR still put samuels as the number one tailback on the depth chart. Who do you think will carry the rock first against boise in the dome? Sometimes it seems like CMR likes to go with the veteran even if it's not the better choice.

New to the site and have never replied on any site before. Love the info in this piece.
Gentry, do you think the coaching staff ever downplays how well a player or players might be doing in order to not tip their hand too much in the media? For instance, I live in SC, and last summer Lattimore was said to be doing pretty well, but nothing spectacular during the preseason workouts. I suspect that Spurrier was holding back. We are just now getting word that Clowney is unblockable when he purely rushes the passer, but is still struggling with the playbook on anything else. Thoughts?
