*** From Jarvis Jones ...

  • Thought you guys would want to see it, but I'm gonna call this a take-it-for-what-it's-worth statement from Jarvis Jones today when asked about the OLBs ...

"Oh man, we're young. We're real young. I've still got this year and next year left, so I mean, if you look at it as a whole, we're real young."

  • That would be something to hold on to one of our best players for next year... Would love to see more staying than leaving like the past few years (except this year).

    Kapridawg

  • he's consistently spoken like this too....

    Allhailuga

  • A three time consensus All-American sounds pretty dang good to me

If we kept Jarvis and Alec for 2013 the drop-off on D could be marginal.

If we lose both it could be legitimately scary.

    Reeves

  • Last year he did say he was staying at UGA as long as possible.

    gbulldogs91

  • I agree. If we keep Jarvis, Alec, and Kwame we will still probably have a drop overall but we would still be scary.

  • I think our secondary is what will be hurt most. Garrison Smith and Lott I think can hold the ends. And I think Taylor will be a beast at NT. Clemons and Jenkins should be good OLBs. Herrera has already proven to be a good ILB and I believe Ramik will too. Hopefully Swann Mitchell Dawson and Bowman all do well at CB and Moore can step up at safety. Then we will have to depend on a another safety stepping up or coming in and playing well.

    gbulldogs91

  • I think we will be ok at corner is Malcome
Is still there. Safety does concern me but if we get a juco safety or Matthews can enroll early then I will feel a lot better.

Ramik Wilson, Amarlo Herrera, Jordan Jenkins, Brandon Burrows, TJ Stripling, Josh Dawson, Leonard Floyd, and JHC say hello. I think these guys will be ready be then.

O'Neal, hopefully Reuben Foster, and a few others will be freshmen, but we all know Reuben will be ready. I want to get some quality depth for the coming years in this class, but we should have LB's ready to go in 2013. The secondary is the only thing I am worried about, and I honestly think we will have some great CB's ready to go them. Again, just need to build depth with the 2013 class.

  • Our defense will be fine. CTG has recruited for his D very well and he will have these players ready. I'm not trying to sound rude....but y'all are soooo happy when the player commits bc he is going to be a stud, but when it's his time to play, y'all get scared. Look at how we played last year with a lot of unproven players. I'm not worried at all about the future of our defense bc CTG gets it done in recruiting and in coaching!!

  • In this day and age, his attitude is...refreshing. This kid is a leader. Somebody you trust to lead you into battle on a glorious Saturday 'tween the hedges. Or in Columbia.

I agree that we have good talent coming in but we'll potentially be losing proven, All-SEC and All-American type players. The younger guys can absolutely get there, but they won't be from the word go.

Notice that I also said could, not will be.

    Reeves

  • I think our DL will be every bit as good if Kwame and Garrison are back. Garrison, Drew, Bailey, Atkins, Taylor, Thornton, and maybe Montravious Adams. We will find a really good group of DEs, and Kwame and Mayes would be solid at NG. Remember we only us a NG for about 30% of our defensive snaps.

LBs would be great if just one of Ogletree or Jarvis come back. Ramik and Herrera inside with Jenkins and Jarvis outside? Yes please

CB will be dominant. Mitchell and Swann will be the best CB tandem in the country imo. Dawson, Bowman, Shaq, and Steven Nelson will be solid depth.

S is the problem. I think Moore is going to be very good at SS, but FS is open. I wouldn't be surprised if Swann plays FS in '13 out of necessity. Hopefully that isn't necessary. True freshmen can't be counted on to do anything at safety because of the responsibility they have back there.

This should easily be a top 10 defense imo. As good or better than the 2011 defense.

I agree with this. In past years we had to worry about when upperclassmen graduated - now I don't worry about it anymore because our recruiting on defense has been so good that I know we've got studs waiting in the wings to take over. It's a nice feeling.

  • Jarvis, Thanks for the quote!! It may seem silly but it sure feels good to hear these types of statements from super athletes. I don't know how you guys feel but as good as this kid plays I think he talks even a better game. The reason?? He walks the talk. Jarvis Jones is the real deal and he represents the type of young person that I wish we heard more from........... Theres a bunch of trash talk every which way you look these days on just about every subject. I so hope for my kids and my grandkids that the direction a kid like Jarvis Jones walks will prove to be a catalyst for other young people.

SEC football might be a religion, but Georgia football is life. It simply gets no better.
