*** If I was writing a column on the Final Four ...

  • I'd be thrilled if it was half as good as this.

Fantastic take by a fantastic writer.

John Calipari, Anthony Davis, and what Kentucky's march to the Final Four means for college basketball - Grantland

They're going to win. And what happens next will be really bad for college basketball.

Strongly disagree. In fact, the article sucks.

Calipari did not create the one and done rule, he just was smart enough to use it to his advantage
No other coach can duplicate what he has done because there is only 1 Calipari and only 1 Kentucky
Kentucky has a senior leader in Miller and 2 sophomores, they are not all freshmen who are going to leave after 1 year
My kid goes to school there and the players go to class and all have done quite well except Daniel Orton, who was a douchebag.

This article was written by another jealous pathetic uninformed hater who knows nothing about Kentucky and its athletics department.

I am friends with the AD and he absolutely is loaded with integrity and has taken UK athletics up 5 notches from where it was and has done it the right way.

    This article is crap

    Fair enough.

I think my reaction was more about his points on why everyone seems to be rooting against Kentucky. I don't necessarily think this was a shot at Kentucky as much as just a finger on the pulse of what it would mean for college basketball if the 'Cats win. Whether the negative perception of Cal is appropriate or not, it is a popular perception.

And honestly, I've always personally liked Cal during my dealings with him at various stops, and I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for Kentucky basketball. There is no league trip I'd rather make than Rupp.

Not a fan of Calipari, but if he doesn't win, he'll take some heat..Couldn't get it done with Rose at Memphis or John Wall at UK..That said, I don't see anybody beating him...Duke is now getting a taste of the one and dones..It will eventually catch up with you..Rules should be more like football..Has ruined college basketball for me.

  • I am not trying to stir the pot here, for some reason my posts routinely have that effect. So I thought I'd address that up front so there's no confusioin about it later. But this is an EXCELLENT aritcle, and I'm not saying that because I hate Calipari or Kentucky. I do root for Duke, which is why this article was so great in my opinion; I thought the author did an excellent job of speaking about the fear I have of Kentucky winning a natty. The reason I like Duke is because I feel like Coach K gets his players to win using unique strategies and techniques that will allow "his brand" of players to be succesful, the guy has LITERALLY been the anti-Cal until the last two years. So if Kentucky wins I think it'll be a disaster, but they're so good wishing for them to lose kinda feels very close to the definition of insanity.

Explain Kyrie Irving and Austin rivers

    One and done-both of them

Discuss the Corey Magette recruitment and the cover up of what really went down.

Calipari did not invent the rule, in fact he wants it to be 2 years minimum instead of 1

Cal is a slimeball....after he has left UMass and Memphis, they both had Final Four appearances vacated. That speaks for itself to the integrity of him as a coach. twocents

    List what Cal did wrong

    Camby hired an agent

Rose had someone take the SAT for him. He was also cleared TWICE by the NCAA Clearinghouse. No coach in america would have sat him out.

Now tell me what Cal did wrong.

Are you stupid enough to believe that in those hours of interviews and investigations that the NCAA didn't try and get him for something?

    Yet NOTHING was found????

  • You have 3 examples, do we wanna go down the list of one and dones at Kentucky?? I don't think you wanna go down that road, and I wrote in the post that it almost never happens at Duke. So by naming 3 kids that left after one year you're proving my point, you can add Luol Deng to the list as well. But he left because he needed the money to do things for the country where he was born, so in my opinion that still makes Duke the opposite of Kentucky.

    My point remains the same:

Calipari did not invent the one and done rule
Other schools have kids leave early(UNC just lost 3)

  • Well perhaps you're missing my point, because nobody expects any basketball team to keep every player on it for four years. I also was mentioning Calipari compared to Coach K, not Roy Williams, but you're free to have your opinion of Calipari. I was just giving mine is all.
