Bobby Petrino has been placed on administrative leave and released a statement where he basically seems to admit that something was up and he "hopes" to keep his job.

Petrino probably wouldn't be fired for having an affair, even though the young lady is currently engaged to another employee in the athletics department (ouch).
But what could get him here is ...
-- That he lied to his superiors about who was with him for this accident
-- That she was recently hired to a position in the Arkansas AD

To emphasize, Petrino mentioned "a previous inappropriate relationship," so he hasn't admitted anything w/ J.Dorrell (at least to this point).

That said I certainly had a concern about Jessica Dorrell's name being revealed. In my press conference, I referred to her simply as 'a lady.' My concern was to protect my family and a previous inappropriate relationship from becoming public. In hindsight, I showed a serious mistake in judgment when I chose not to be more specific about those details. Today, I've acknowledged this previous inappropriate relationship with my family and those within the athletic department administration. ... HMMMMMMM, and all he's getting is a slap on the hand? He'll be back when fall practices come in. "SMH" How embarassing for both of them.

I think the implication was that the infidelity was not going on at the time of the accident. I may have misinterpreted that, though.

I'd say it's that or just Petrino's way of saying it's not going on anymore (as of right now versus ... oh ... Sunday).
But, yes, officially he has been put on administrative leave for not being forthcoming with his superiors about the circumstances of the crash, not the "relationship"

I have a friend who works at the NBC affiliate in Little Rock and he says: "Administrative leave right now ... main thing is he lied to the ad ... I think he'll be back ... if he went 7-5 instead of 11-2 I think he would not.

In today's college football media climate, I've learned to just go ahead and say on the front end that so-and-so is not going to keep his job when scandals like this start rolling.
There are just too many places and directions this story can grow. See Damon Evans, Joe Paterno, etc ... It just rarely ends well.
But as I said, the affair isn't the thing. The killer is that he hired her only a few days ago to a position in the athletic department over other candidates and then didn't tell his employers about her being involved in the accident... Plus, she is (was?) engaged to another employee in the athletic department.

I agree, just wait this story will grow. IMO, you will see some other women come out and admit to having relationships with him all the way back to his UL days. Maybe not tiger woods type of lineup but a couple I would guess. The fact that he wins games will keep Arkansas trying to justify keeping him.
