*** Strength & Conditioning notes (Tues 4/10)

  • Reporters just met with Joe Tereshinski, John Thomas and Sherman Armstrong. Here are the highlights of the press conference ...

-- Rex Bradberry's spot on the staff will probably be filled by a graduate assistant rather than a full-time employee, according to Tereshinski.
-- Joe T called it the "greatest coup ever" in hiring Thomas after his Penn State experience.
-- Joe T says Thomas' High-Intensity Training is very similar to what he has always believed and been doing
-- The team will now be doing a three-day lifting cycle this offseason with two days set aside for speed work with Armstrong
-- Armstrong said he did indeed leave his business in Tampa to accept the job at UGA
-- Joe T says the team is "stronger than where we were last year."
-- Joe T is clear that he's not viewing himself as the boss necessarily and that "all three are equal in my book" between he and Armstrong and Thomas.
-- Thomas does plan to continue his brand of HI training at UGA, saying it's "all about the fourth quarter," with which Joe T agrees.
-- Thomas said players at UGA are "very comparable" to players at Penn State from a strength and conditioning standpoint but may be a little more athletic here.
-- Thomas said it is a "breath of fresh air" to be at UGA after what was a messy end at Penn State. He added that "There's a lot of qualities and characteristics that are very much the same" between Joe Paterno and Mark Richt.
-- Thomas is 49 years old
-- Thomas' family has not moved down yet mostly because his son is still in high school
-- Armstrong says of the speed on team now, "I've been impressed, but there's a lot to work with."
-- Joe T says Keith Gray "doubled his salary" to take job with NFL's Philly Eagles.
-- UGA did mat drills once a week prior to spring to challenge "mental toughness," per Joe T. The team lifted Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
-- Overall, Joe T says the program is "Going in the direction I'd like them to go, very much so. ... The emphasis still is to win the fourth quarter."

  • I like the way everything sounds. Minus the GA filling the last slot.

SEC football might be a religion, but Georgia football is life. It simply gets no better.

  • Gentry with Joe T only taking a GA to fill Rex's spot does that open another spot up to hire an additional member of the coaching staff?
