Back from the practice field ...
No Burnette. No Vasser. (Shoulder injuries both)
Didn't see Richard Samuel out there. Don't know the reason.
Harvey-Clemons still working with OLBs today.
Bulldogs are in full pads again, but man, it's cold down there on that field.
Coldest practice I can remember this season, and it doesn't look like a lot of fun, at least for the defense and scout team offense. Cut blocks everywhere for those guys.
ATHENS, Ga. -- Linebacker Chase Vasser will undergo shoulder surgery Tuesday that will end his 2012 season.
Richt on the way in now ...
Raving over hot chocolate.
"Oh my goodness! Waiting all day for this! ... Oh yeah! That is so good."
Richt: "I thought we did better today trying to simulate and defend Georgia Southern's offense."
Says team will put on full pads again tomorrow "for a while."
"I think we need some more work still. Coach Grantham believes me need some more work with full pads on, so we're going to do that. We'll get as close to game speed as we can get. I know it's not the same, but we're getting there."
So that means Georgia will be in full pads four days in a row to deal with cut blocking.
"You can't hardly practice against it without putting pads on."
"We just felt like the best thing we could do was teach our scout team to go full speed. ... If we don't do it and just try to act like we're doing it or do anything less than full speed, we're just going to be in really big trouble. We still might be in trouble. I don't know. We'll just have to see."
More of the same with the full pads next week, but maybe not Monday, Richt says.
Richt again on Abry Jones ...
"We do believe he's got a good shot at playing in the bowl."
Richt on JHC at OLB this week ...
"It has 100 percent to do with what we're trying to defend."
"It's hard to say exactly where he'll end up right now. I think he could end up at linebacker or safety. I don't know where he's going to end up."
Richt says Samuel was out today with an "abdominal strain" suffered in the Auburn game.
Richt during a lull ...
"What else do y'all want to know, because I'm not leaving until I drink this chocolate."
Richt on long runs by Gurley and Marshall ...
"You might could take the last five years and have more long runs this year than you had those years."
"I think we've gotten our backs to the safeties to the past, but these backs have done a good job of making them miss and having the speed to go the distance."
Richt says if defense plays the cut blocks well enough they shouldn't get more beat up in these next two games versus a normal game.
"Maybe it'll make us tougher," Richt says.
Richt on Austin Long ...
"Austin is coming along. Austin when he got here, he had back surgery and everything. There's no doubt it hurt his progression. ... He's getting stronger, and I think he's got more knowledge of what we're trying to do. When he's been in the games, he's played pretty good. I think he's starting to win Coach Friend over a little bit."
Injury report out and a couple of new ones ...
Samuel out with "abdominal wall strain."
Blake Tibbs was out today with a right ankle injury
Burnette still out with shoulder injury
Congratulations to UGA equipment director John Meshad and his wife. They had a baby boy today, according to Richt.
My wife and I got to know them in a parenting class back this summer.

Josh Harvey-Clemons says his work at OLB is just for these two weeks. He thinks he'll still be at safety in the spring.
More from him in practice report ...
