Alabama just got their 25th commitment

  • They can't have much room left. I bet a couple of Georgia kids like Dakota Ball and Justin Taylor get cut.

I am sure Saban will sign as many as he wants and dare the SEC to stop him. Rusty or Gentry do you have any insight on how many they can actually sign?

  • UA has 4 spots left w/ a bunch of top targets on the board. Casey Gladney - current UA commit - won't qualify.

  • You think maybe this will help with Jordon Jenkins if had i had pick one Ball or Taylor would like to see Dakota Ball in the red&black .

    TurboDawgs

  • UA will always keep a spot for JJ, no matter what.

    jweng

  • I wouldn't think this would help us with Jenkins. He is a top recruit, I would think they will have him a scholly no matter what.

jweng, great minds think alike... at the same time Lol

3 spots. They are at 25 and from everything going around are only taking 28. I am sure that number will magically grow if #29, 30 etc are Jenkins, Goldman, Collins, etc...

You're right that they are taking 28 - however, I didn't include Gladney as a "commit" because it would take an absolute miracle for him to qualify. So, I consider them at 24 current commits w/ 4 spots. Either way, they will take 28 total in the 2012 class.

  • Don't have specifics as far as early enrollees/backcounting, etc ... It will be more than 25 but not much more

  • Not to sound like an idiot, especially on a Friday, but dosen't the SEC now limit schools to 25 signees per year?. I know that we have two early enrollees that will count back to 2011, so we can technically sign 27. I have not gone back to look, but there is no way Bama has that luxury with the number of kids they have signed in the past three years. They should be capped at 25, no matter how many Juniors leave early.

We(Bama) are looking to sign at least 28 with three that back count to last year as we only signed 22. As of right now it looks as if Gladney might not qualify and go the Juco route and i believe that Justin Taylor and Dakota Ball are takes regardless. We have heard rumbling that we have a commit that might flip to FSU but that is just rumor. As of right now we would still take JJ, Collins, a DB and Goldman and Winston with Goldman and Winston being a 50/50 shot.

That was actually only their 24th commitment chief. And they can only back count 3.

So they have room for 5, including Jordan Jenkins.

    Herschel Walker

  • But you have to also have room on the 85 count to be able to back count. Meaning you must have only 82 scholarship players the year before to back count. So it does NOT matter that you only signed 22 last year since you certainly had 84-85 scholarship players this year.

  • DawgPound74:

I've thought that as well and it should make recruiting against them that much more competitive.

I just hope we can get the recruits we need the most to fill our positions-of-need. From reading Rusty's 2012 recruiting 'crystal ball', it seems like we are hopefully on our way to do that.

A win and good showing in the Outback Bowl certainly won't hurt those efforts!

Go Dawgs! Let's get er done!

To expand on this I believe that we (Bama) take 27-29 (depending on who actually commits/wants to commit), with the three back counts from our 22 last year, a grade casualty or two, and grey shirts (GA RB Justin Taylor would be one guess due to his knee problem). If we have a few who do not want to grey shirt or want to seek other collegiate options due to how our class has shaped up (see Prattville QB Justin Thomas to GaTech) thus far, then they will be allowed to do so if they are a lower echelon recruit.

I see it like this realistic (more objective thoughts in parentheses)

Eddie Goldman - 50% (I personally think more like 45% right NOW)
    Jameis Winston - 50% (I personally think like 60%)
Landon Collins - 50% (I think it's still a toss up. Maybe 55% Bama because of his GF)
Cyrus Jones - 80% (Has long favored us. VT is close to home, though)
Jordan Jenkins - 85% (Long favorite. I think this is the surest of them all - though that isn't saying much)
Other - I am sure (especially when/if we miss out on one of these guys)

As for our 85 cap limit, I have not done the research and it is nearly impossible with Saban. But I am sure he has it drawn out as he knows who is graduating, transferring, entering the draft, quitting, etc)
