Athens Trip

SIx of us will be making our first trip to Athens for the Kentucky game. What are some good local places to eat and get a few drinks? I know that it is an early game but what is the tailgating like (parking, alcohol policies, etc)? We are staying downtown, is that close enough to walk to the stadium? Thanks in advance for the info.

Yes that's close enough, pretty much anywhere you walk into downtown you will find all of the above that you are looking for.

Personally I like the Taco Stand and The Grill. A lot of these guys will give you their take. Walking around with alcohol I'd suggest a solo cup, and we always do our tailgating on North Campus. They took away a lot of the rights that North Campus was known for, but I personally still have a good time. You'll hear plenty more from other, but hope you enjoy it. Go Dawgs!!

Cat, Walk straight down Lumpkin St. to the stadium..It's beside the holiday Inn...Mayflower for breakfast...Beverages are legal once you're on campus..Anything left of Lumpkin and Broad and you're good to go...Most Dawgs fans always have an "extra" beer for an opponent.

If you are staying in Athens after the game, Boars Head downtown is a good place to get a drink. Live music is usually playing, I really like it there.

IMO, the best place for food is The Last Resort, and Transmetropolitan (aka transmet) has awesome pizza. Check out the new roof top bar on top of the ga theatre for a beer, also try nowhere bar, cutters, or really just any bar you walk by downtown that looks like fun. I hope you enjoy athens.

I am a huge fan of Shokitini for dinner. Its located on Clayton Street near the Gameday Condos. For bars, I like JR's and Allgood as both have outdoor areas. Other food places include Five Star Day for breakfast, Allen's for burgers (not downtown), Transmet for pizza, Last Resort (lunch, brunch, dinner), Farm 255 and Clocked for burgers (downtown).

Sideways, Boars Head and General's are some of my favorite bars downtown. 8D's bar, Walker's and the Globe are worth stopping in at as well.
