Biggest impact this year?

  • Malcolm Mitchell or Corey Moore

I said Corey Moore will be playing a ton on defense by Tenn game while talking with a buddy tonight. I think it will take Mitchell a few more games than that. I love MM, but I think CM is gonna be a big time player for us. Just imo

  • I think Moore will have more playing time, but I think Mitchell will have a couple of chances to make big plays.

  • do you consider special teams a big part of playing?

  • I would saying playing regular snaps

I do think both will be on some sort of special teams

I gotta agree on the offensive side with m&m, however, I hope, and my heart hopes, it is a three headed monster on offense that announces itself in the Dome as "Boo, I'm King Crowell!"

On defense I gotta go with the nature boy John Jenkins.

  • I think that Moore could have had a significant impact if he could have enrolled early and participated in spring drills, but I am concerned with any freshman playing a safety position in a complex 3-4 defense with only a month of preparation and practice. I think he will be huge in the future, possibly by mid-season, but a combination of shawn williams, the hit-man, and b. smith better be ready by that Boise game (I am also taking for granted that Rambo and B. Boykin are a given in the other secondary positions)!

I think MM will have an instant impact on offense if we can simply find ways to get him the ball in space. Can you imagine a package that puts him, orson, and b. smith on the field at the same time!! Imagine the things that you can do with t. king, MM, orson, and any other combination of WR's, then add in the fact that you have a fullback that can also split out or become a receiving option out of the backfield. I am frustrated with how vanilla our offense is at times (and predictable), but Bobo should have a fun summer thinking of ways to distribute the ball this year. I think if MM can quickly learn some set plays, run good routes, and pick up the intrinsic details, we can have a really good receiver corp sooner rather than later. So I think MM makes the bigger splash, at least early on in the season.

  • As others have mentioned, I don't trust that Moore will have the mental aspect of the game down early in the season. Mitchell could be the #2 WR by midseason in my opinion. I've said this about a million times on other forums, but you don't get 77 grabs for 1,400 yards in 1-AAAAA without being a player. Mitchell shredded a loaded Lowndes secondary (which Lowndes25 can comment on) for over 200 yards with a limp noodle QB throwing the ball to him. Give Mitchell a guy like Murray, and watch him streak down the field.

Yeah, I wish Griffin had been a help in that situation and not a hindrance.

  • Easier to learn what to do at WR than DB so Mitchell. Hands down.

The biggest difference between Mitchell and Brown was the level of competition. Marlon played against arguably the worst competition East of the Mississippi in high school (private school Tennesssee football), while Mitchell played in arguably the toughest region in the souteastern US. It takes a lot longer for a player to adjust to SEC competition when they only played against the worst in HS.

In addition, I don't think people are really giving enough credit to the fact that AJ Green accounted for the vast majority of our receptions over the last few years. It's difficult for any WR to make an impact when AJ is on the field, simply because that WR isn't going to get nearly as many opportunities.

  • Good point. Marlon Brown was coming along and got a lot of looks in the Colorado and UT games. After that, not so much. I still think the guy will have a big year this year for us. He certainly has the talent.
