Can't wait to put the Cocks back in their place

  • They were lucky enough to beat us last year with the help of an Ealey fumble in the end zone. Let's not forget it was Murray's first SEC game and was also in their house. It was our first real test in the new 3-4 without a true NT. AJ was suspended and we spent all offseason thinking he would be the center piece of our offense. I'm not making excuses as to why we lost I'm just saying with all that we still could have beat them.

Now wIth it being between the hedges I think we beat them. No way Lattimore shreads the D like he did last year with this front 7. Having Geathers and Jenkins alone will cut down on a lot of those runs.

  • Don't worry they will be. I'll give them this, they ARE better than they have been in the past, but you rarely win the east (or west) with as many losses as they had. It just worked out that the big 3 all sucked last year. Unfortunately for them they'll learn the hard way that just because you got to the top doesn't mean that its easy in any way to stay there, even for two seasons in a row. Winning doesn't just happen, it is an everlasting battle which you lose more than win.

Reread that first paragraph and then read the last sentence. Something doesn't make sense. You list a bunch of excuses then say you aren't making excuses.

This year Murray is in year 2 and the defense is in year 2. You will not have AJ again this year. You do have a true freshman RB. You have 2 NT, with one having a tough time making it through practice and your insiders say will need time to develop. Your offensive line is razor thin which will make Murray's job MUCH more difficult. Injuries can add up quickly when you are thin at certain positions.

You do have talent and will always have talent. You are also at home and the USC UGA game is always close. YOu do have the easiest schedule in the SEC this year. Richt knows he is on the hot seat and wants to be the head coach at UGA. I think Boise St will be down this year after their main assistant left for Texas. UGA wins the first one then plays USC for the SEC east in week 2. It should be a hell of a game

    Doc Holladay

  • I know it sounds like it but I'm not saying those are the reasons we lost. Just with all that going on we still managed to make it a close game. This is one of the toughest games we play every year and no matter how good both teams are it's almost always single digits. Some of the SC fans are saying you guys will blow us out this year though and that's just not very likely

Most objective Georgia fans realize we will need a lot of luck to beat Carolina this year....I think SC has better skill players (overall), a better defense, more proven talent overall, and, of course, better coaching.

To say we need a lot of luck to beat USCe is just un true. Could USCe beat us? Very easily. Are the favored? Most likely, and they honestly should be. But not by more than 4 points IMO. Neither team needs a lot of luck to beat the other. This game is a toss up and will be a dog fight like it is every year. At this point to say either team will kill the other team is ridiculous.

I have yet to read a post by you that has had a single positive thing to say about the dawgs. Are you sure you are a Georgia fan? You remind me of Eyore from Winnie the Pooh. I bet you are the life of every party --- any chance you would like to get together before a couple games this year so we can just sit around and talk about how bad Georgia sucks? Let me guess --- you either work as a clown for chidrens birthday parties or you are a motivational speaker. I bet you hang around the mall during Christmas time so you can tell all the little kids that Santa isn't real. Tell me Mr. Sunshine, when does the next meeting for self-loathing Georgia fans meet?

I consider myself to be an objective, knowledgeable Georgia fan.

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. So yes, luck always plays a role.

Your premise that SCU is more talented is based on nothing more than your warped sense of reality.

Your premise that they have a better defense is based on something other than fact. I have already provided the proof that Georgia had a better defense last year in all meaningful categories.

Please, Mr. NWGaDawg, tell us, outside of Alshon, where is this huge discrepancy in proven talent? Inquiring minds would like to know. If facts mean anything to you, Georgia has more NFL draft prospects than SCU right now. At the present time, Georgia also has 45 players on NFL rosters while SCU has only 27.

Are you trying to become the first poster ever with a negative star rating?

As for coaching, we can do this two ways.......winning %, which supports Mark Richt and sending players to the league, which also supports Mark Richt.

  • I would also consider myself an objective Georgia fan. SC is a very good team. I just happen to think that UGA is a good team as well. It is an excellent game every year. The only luck I am praying for this year is that our offensive line can stay healthy. I think we have all of the tools to make alot of noise, but most importantly, I think the attitudes are right. As far as the game, I don't think either team will need luck. They look like 2 well matched teams that will fight it out. As far as the talent comment, I'm not sure you've really thought that one out. I give UGA the QB, O-Line and TE edge. I will concede RB edge to SC only because it is a proven commodity (how proven was Lattimore this time last year?), as well as WR. SC has a great D-Line, and I am excited/nervous to see them go against Cordy, Jones, etc. I don't hate SC like some others, maybe because my aunt is a professor there. I will continue to root for them in out-of-conference games and wish them luck in their other SEC games (I just need them to lose 2 or 3). All of this is really irrelavent for now. We will learn alot about the improved UGA defense after game 1. Let's start this again in 6 days. :)

I do hate that this game is so early in the year. Whichever way it goes, it will be a deflating loss for one of us.

He is one of those rare kinds of people whose only enjoyment in sports is actually the negativity. They're like masochists. They'd rather writhe in misery than enjoy things when they're good. He's like the fan from Major League, sitting in the bleachers and after every good thing, trying to throw a damper on the mood with a "they'll tank in October, just you wait."

People like this are just miserable to be around in general, and I avoid them. That's why he's on my ignore list.

  • I can't believe that I'm about to do this, but I have to agree with NWGaDawg on the "proven" talent issue. Lets go through it by position:

QB: Edge: UGA- I think honest SCU fans would agree that they would rather have Murray than Garcia.

RB: Edge: SCU- They know what they have in Lattimore...We THINK we know what we have in Crowell.

WR: Edge: SCU- Alshon puts them over the top here

OL: Edge: UGA- Ben Jones gives us the edge, but barely. Both teams have a good bit of starting experience across the line, but both teams have players starting at positions where they haven't played much previously.

DL: Edge: SCU- Taylor, Ingram and Robertson are proven horses and Taylor will be a high 1st rounder, imo. Again, I think UGA has the potential to be VERY good here, but we're talking about proven talent. Same situation as RB, imho.

LB: Edge: SCU- They return three starters. I think when its all said and done, UGA will have the better core here, but again, they know what they've got (solid players but no real all-stars like they've had in the past) and we won't know till the lights come on Sept. 3.

DB: Edge: SCU- Again, they return a bunch of starters here, including Gilmore, Auguste and previous starter CC Whitlock. We have starting experience out there, just not at their previous positions (Cummings, Williams, Smith). I think that UGA's secondary will be MUCH improved from last year, they just haven't proven it yet.

ST: Edge: UGA- This category isn't close. Butler and Walsh are the best P/K combo in the nation, with Boykin being one of the best kick returners in the SEC, if not the country.

I guess what I'm saying is that both teams are talented, and I think UGA has the higher ceiling, but at the current moment SCU has the more 'proven' talent. Really not trying to be an EV, just trying to be objective and give MVHO.

Good luck to you, but we are more than just Lattimore(and it was his first SEC game too) just ask Clemson. We've also got the best wr to come through the SEC in the past 10 years....well since Sidney Rice.

  • Very good post, WinnDawg.

I think the spread will all depend on the first game. If you all beat Boise, you are 3 point favorites. If you lose, SC is 1-2 point favorites.

The thing about you guys this year is that you have talent(and no one should argue that), but that talent is unproven. Crowell could be the next Lattimore, but he hasnt proven anything yet. You lost your go-to reciever in AJ and no one stepped up in the games he was out last year, so I would say the talent there is unproven as well. No ones who will set up and how they will perform as the #1 option.

Everyone knows how Lattimore and Jeffrey will do. They were the top RB and WR last year for the Gamecocks.

Geathers is a RS-Soph with 7 career tackles. Could he be the next Fairley, Cody, etc... yes. But, he has proven nothing.

I could go on and on. I think SC will win and I think that is based on proven talent and what he also brought in(speed and #1 recruit Clowney). And you guys could end up having many All-SEC players, but right now, you are very unproven in key areas.

And i do agree that this game will be close. They always are and it being in Stanford Stadium being the hedges gives UGA that home field advantage, but not enough at the proven talent of USC will come out ahead.

    Finnyusc

  • I love this proven talent concept. Proven that it got spanked by Auburn and Florida State to end the year. Proven that it lost 5 games last year. I am not worried about your 'proven' talent. I am only concerned that our shows up and if it does then UGA will be just fine.

You’re joking right? Because I found it funny that you are implying he is better than AJ or even Julio, Lets be real… he's not.
