After we beat Fla St in the Sugar Bowl i thought we finally got us a coach that was going to take us to the title. 9 seasons later, dont have that feeling so much. Feel like we get out coached alot, and we win inspite of some of our coaches due to our talent. Of course, just IMO. Anyone agree or am i in the dark. Dont get me wrong i think Richt is a great human and great influence on tje young men, and that means alot. But i get pissed when Fla, Bama, LSU have two each and Auburn has 1 and went undefeated another season. For the most part we get the same players and have the same sources but we cant get the job done. Where should the blame be?
I'm gonna stay far away from this topic bc I know how talking against the coaches and players is received by pro-UGA folks even if the post has credence. Good luck on whatever responses are given on this topic homie
I really don't understand this. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but why such negativity after such a positive season with the outlook we have in 2012? Just doesn't seem like an appropriate discussion at this point.
I know it's popular to say that we get the same players as those other schools and just don't do as much with it, but that's really not the case. I know we usually finish in the top 10 and have had some really good recruiting classes, but if you look deeper you see that even though we are top 10 in the country, we are usually 3rd or 4th in the SEC. If you look at some of the recruiting classes that UF, Bama, and LSU have had over the same time period when they had classes ranked 1st or 2nd in the nation, none of the classes we have had were any where close to that level of talent.
That's not to say we haven't had some disappointing losses over the years and lost some games we should have won, but just because the AJC tries to convince you that we have the same level of talent as UF, Bama, and LSU doesn't make it true.
Personally I don't like to play the blame game. I'm not going to claim to be smarter than guys who have been coaching for 10, 15, 20, 25 years. Apparently you think we need new coaches without just coming out and saying it. Who is your choice then? I just don't see many other guys out there. We've had seasons under Richt where we almost got to play for it all but had a slip-up along the way. Winning it all is not easy. Today's microwave society wants everything done yesterday and if something doesn't go your way you have to blame it on something or someone. Me, I enjoy the journey every year. It's what makes college football great. Sometimes it comes down to something as simple as which way a ball decides to bounce in a given game. Everyone knows the teams you mentioned had no problem bending the rules to get ahead and douche bag coaches. I'm not down with that. Being a coach is a constant juggling act of teaching, recruiting, coaching, mentoring, managing a roster AND depending on 17-21 year old kids to not do something really stupid for 3-4 years and pan out as stud players all the while fans that are hardly ever happy complaining about everything you do. As bad as the fans want it, I'm pretty sure nobody wants it as bad as the coaches and players. Also, only one team truly goes home happy at the end in all sports. This season sets up about as well as it ever has. I think high expectations are good b/c barring injuries we should should be in the hunt. There were changes the last couple of years which have worked. We finally started getting back to adapting on both sides of the ball. We need to continue to evolve on both sides of the ball and fix our special teams. I thought maybe at one point we were getting left behind but I think we have things in place right now to get it done. I truly think this season will be bigger for Richt than any time on the supposed "hot seat" b/c this looks like a real window and the perceived drop off next year losing guys to the draft.
In fairness and to your point though, I think the OL: changing coaches, losing guys to injury and others not panning out, has been our biggest concern and thing we have to fix on a consistent basis. It has been Richt's kryptonite IMO.

I guess my real question is: How long does Richt get without a title game or are my expectations too high. Are Most UGA fans content with what we've gotten in the past 11 years? Id like more, i hope Richt can accomplish a NC just have more doubts now than i did in 2003.
Well said bullymac, thanks for your input
I personally think cmr has done An excellent job at uga. Have I been disappointed in the results at times? Absolutely but I'm not disappointed in the least with cmr. He is a man who is the face of our program and I hope he is for a long time. A mnc will come eventually and when it does we will have nothing to blush about like our sec counterparts do. So to answer your ? I am more confident going into this year than I have ever been.
The bottom line is CMR is the captain of this ship so the bucks starts and stops with him. It is tough watching our rivals win multiple titles while our team teeters on being good to really good. I realize that there is a bit of luck involved with winning these things however I also know that the truly successful people in life make their own luck. While I support CMR 100% now I do not have the faith in him that I had the first five years of his tenure. He deserves a great deal of credit for his success but we are well within reason to be critical of him when realistic expections are not met. Just because we are not qualified to be a coaches does not mean that we can't tell the difference between a good football team versus a bad football team and We have had some poorly performing teams in recent years. CMR is the man so what ever needs to be done he is needs to make sure it gets done. Next year is huge for him.
Btw...Hiring Grantham was a major move in the right direction.
I agree 100%. Watching us in the past, we have never been a very deep team. Although we were always in the top ten in recruiting rankings, we never had a no. 1 class. Anyone remember Josh Johnson? We seem to have signed these guys in the past and they have never played a snap for us. I think this changed with last years class (The Dream Team). I see alot of talent in that signing class (too bad we lost Marshall and Sanders). I think if we can keep signing this kind of talent, CMR and CTG can get us there.
It's a legitimate question. Everyone's expectations should be high otherwise what is the point? Nothing wrong with that but I just think being realisitic is the key. McGarity said he expects us to always be in the conversation. That is the goal and realistic considering the talent in this state. If that is the case, one or more should fall our way WE HOPE anyway right? Shoot man, it's tough to make a living in the SEC. JoePa and Bowden had to wait a long time. If Richt has a career here anywhere close to those two had you will have some that say we should have won more...like with Bobby Cox too. It's just the nature of the beast. As long as we can hang onto Grantham I like our chances of things going our way. He has been everything we needed and more on the field and on the recruiting trail.
Yes southdog im aware how long took those coaches to win the NC, also heard Bobby B state if he was starting over today that he would jave gotten fired. Times have changed.

Bullymac, absolutely agree with ya on Grantham. He's been awesome and wish we could lock him into another 3yrs or more contract. I hope this time next year everyone is telling me how wrong i was and Richt is coach of the year and we have the long awaited crystal ball in Athens

In college football you have to have be lucky too and we've had things go sideways
In 05 dj got hurt
In 07 you had to win your conference(now you don't have to win your division)
In 08 you had suspensions and injury
The point is we've been close and this year we do it

It's not that we are content. It's not like we don't want to win a championship. There are about 120 Div I teams and only two can go to the championship every year. All you can realistically ask for is to compete for conference championships every year and hope that the stars align every so often to go to the championship. Coach Richt has had us in the hunt more years than not and we could have been in the big game a couple of those years if we would have caught the same breaks as LSU and UF did a couple of the years they went.
For me personally, when you look at what CMR has done on AND off the field for us since he has been here, I wouldn't trade him for anyone.
Until they install a playoff, all you can ask of him is to win the SEC. That's the only thing he can control.
GO DAWGS !!!!!!!!
SIC 'EM WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF !!!!!!!!!!!
Petrino han't even come close to accomplishing what CMR has in college football.
