G, you will have to scan this to see if I'm crossing any journalism ethics here, but Saturday Down South posted a really good article looking at the All SEC team and how many stars they had, or didn't have, which was often the case, coming out of high school. Looks like the defensive side was a lot more consistent with five stars. Surprising how many three stars on the offensive side!!!
There is also an article about the top BUSTS of five-stars in the SEC in the last ten years. Branden Smith was on there, and although he may not have reached his potential, I wouldn't classify him as a bust! What do you guys think?
Pretty cool link brother.
cool link. the "bust" story was especially interesting. i don't think crowell or PO were "busts." bottom line, we don't win the east without zeke in 2011 -- while he was on the field, he was every bit the back we thought he was. and paul oliver was a two year starter who we relied on very heavily back there. both guys were good players who produced when on the field, but who cut their own careers short.
Yeah, I was kinda confused on Oliver being a bust. He left early because of academics but when on the field he was a legit SEC starter.
Yeah. We don't beat South Carolina without that long TD run by B. Smith in 2009.
He had that big interception against Kentucky in 2011 that was huge.
And although he's not been a star on defense, he has been a regular contributor for 4 years.
No one should confuse his production with 5 star levels.
But I would be shocked if there weren't 10+ other 5 star players in the SEC with lesser careers.
Oliver sure as heck shut down Calvin Johnson their final years!
If you aren't going to define what a bust is, then the article is pretty meaningless.
I know SDS puts out some decent stuff, but I remember their staff used to be made up of a bunch of UGA haters, so I seldom go there anymore.
