Does anyone remember how dominate we thought our D was going to be this year? We returned a great D and we struggled all year long...... Now a year later, we think our O will be awesome. I'm not trying to start an argument I just want everyone to take a deep breath before we talk about deserving to be in. Top 5 next year.... I hope we are ranked 12-18 and if we make it pass our first 4 games, then get excited. Honestly I think we could be 3-1 but deep down I fear 1-3
To that point, I feel the young D is gonna come out hungry like the offense did this year. They will hear all spring and summer how the offense is going to have to carry them along. But I also think the offense doesn't have the same attitude that this years D had. I think alot of the defense thought we would win most games just by showing up. I don't see that attitude from the offensive skill players and definitly not from the O-line.
I'll give you a plus one because you actually started a thread that wasn't bashing a coach or player. As a matter of fact I was reading ur posts debating sonny about CRG and I was wondering if someone had stolen ur ID, because u were carrying on a sensible debate...albeit with sonny who knows more about football than Probly you and I and most any two others on here.
I welcome u to post anytime in the manner you have tonight. I don't mind different opinions....as long as they're respectful. Welcome, the other side of JJacksondawg!
To be honest, I think they worked really hard to get better on defense. I am of the opinion that our short roster and it's effect on quality depth was the underlying cause of our defensive struggles. When Big John had to move inside out it became obvious to me that we had a serious drop off from 1's to 2's on the DL.
Hopefully we will continue to build quality depth on the OL and the DL. I am excited about the guys on the defensive line getting a fresh start with a new coach.
As a graduate of the Munson school of pessimism, I actually feel pretty dang good about our chances of a special season. I can't believe I just said that.
Our offense will be loaded. And i trust CTG to coach these guys up. last year we lacked depth in the trenches and the suspensions set us back. i have faith that this team is hungry, more mature then past teams and has a great leader in AM. the lost to bama opened some eyes to what can be. CMR talking about getting back after right away shows these guys want it. there are some talented athletes on this defense. grantham will have them ready. and competing against a top notch offense everyday will only make them better. we the fans gotta do more in having faith and supporting our team. this year CMR made a believer out of me that's he focused and geared to go..... GO DAWGS!!
Johnny Dwight commits to Bama on 6/4/13 ranked the 44th DT in the nation by 247sports and 87 rating a 3 star. Now see the Bama bump.
I hope early on that CTG develops depth throughout the Defense. He had the opportunity this past season but didn't use it. IMO, that is what hurt us. Especially on the DL.
CTG needs to also practice more physically this season as well. Less mental/teaching as the season goes. I understand why you do it in Fall Camp but he needs to have them develop more physicallity. We don't need a player going to the press to get them to do it.
The suspensions killed us on defense.
The offensive line had no suspensions and had more question marks than any other area of our team(well, maybe equal to RB).
But the facts are clear. The continuity, the ability to be together every day and play in all the games together made the OL pretty darn good by year end.
It took the defense 7 games to really get that.
I am hoping that the kids on defense start right now with an agreement to stay out of trouble and stay together. There is depth coming and there is young talent that can do great things.
We don't have to be the 1985 Bears defense with our offense coming back
Art Schlichter's cellmates and Mo Clarett's rugby team believe Ohio State always does things honestly.....
