Ok, I am going to start by saying that I am not usually one to say 'dirty program' or 'so-and-so bought a player' when we miss on a recruit- it happens with 17-18 year old kids, and I typically think responses such as those are more 'sour grapes' type remarks than anything else. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I do believe that there are monies changing hands between colleges and their athletes, but I don't think its as rampant or widespread as a lot of folks would like to believe. Now with that being said...
As it pertains to Ole Miss, I can certainly understand and accept what a young man could see in the town of Oxford and a school like Ole Miss- fun small town atmosphere, top notch facilities and beautiful young women. They have a lot to offer, no doubt. HOWEVER, you just don't go from having consistent recruiting classes outside the top 25 nationally to potentially having the top class in the country. I have had multiple credible sources tell me that very shady things are going on in Oxford, with one of them going as far as saying that he was 'shocked' at how overt they were being about it. I did a little digging last night and took a look at Ole Miss' current and past recruiting cycles, noting their overall composite rankings (which is an awesome addition to the site; Thanks 247) and number of 4* and 5* recruits. Here is what I found:
2012: #42 overall class, 0 5*, 3 4*s
2011: #22 overall class, 0 5*, 6 4*s (this was also heralded as their 'Dream Team' type class. Best in over a DECADE).
2010: #36 overall class, 0 5*, 2 4*s
2009: #56 overall class, 0 5*, 0 4*
Now lets take a look at this cycle. They are in line to get 6-7 HS players ranked in the TOP 30 and the #1 overall JUCO player! Here is a list of who I think they will close with, and this is coming from someone who I believe is extremely reliable. I have their 247 ranking, player name, position rank and state rank.
#1 Lavon Hooks #1 DT (JUCO)
#1 Robert Nkemdiche #1 SDE, #1 GA
#2 Chris Jones #2 SDE, #1 MS (kid is going to flip on signing day from MSST. Think we went nuts after the Tunsil news?)
#3 Laremy Tunsil #1 OT, #1 FL
#24 Carl Lawson #1 WDE, #3 GA (think he ends up here too, unfortunately)
#25 Tony Conner #2 S #2 MS
#27 Elijah Daniel #3 SDE #1 IN
#28 LaQuan Treadwell #3 WR #1 IL
That is a RIDICULOUS haul and would equal the same amount of 5*s that the other top 5 classes have COMBINED. Nobody is that good, not without help at least. There are going to be teams and coaches (Mullen, Saban, Malzahn and Richt, among others) screaming foul from the mountain tops if this class plays out the way I think it will, and the NCAA will have no choice but to take notice. Again, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but the proof is in the pudding here, so to speak. I would like to think that a kid like Tunsil would reconsider his decision before he puts himself in a bad situation. If not, I can at least take solace in the fact that Ole Miss will be on probation LONG before they reach the SECCG and will reap what they sow.
Whew. I feel much better now. Thanks for letting me vent.
A few reasons a five star recruit would choose ole miss
1. Education - next to last in the conference about 100 spots below UGA in the rankings
2. Tradition- only team not to represent west in SEC championship
When's the last time they were relevent They got beat by Vandy this year. In the west no chance of beating bama, lsu, a&m in the same year ever. Lighting doesn't strike twice in the same place- must have top 10 class every year to win the west.
3. Equality- 30 for 30, Mississippi burning, riot after the Obama election. The state is listed as the most racial state I'm surprised any African American parent would want their son or daughter to attend. Still love to fly the rebel flag and just the name the ole miss rebels
Maybe CHF has never heard the saying don't pee down my back and tell me it's raining. If he could recruit this good it would not have taken him this long to be at a major program. I thought I would have a better chance of winning the lottery than ole miss to have the #1 recruiting class. If the NCAA does not question this all boosters should feel free to open the checkbooks to recruits.
Their record attendance to a game 62,552 maybe tunsil should have attended a game to ole miss. In comparison ga tech's stadium record is 60k need I say more. I guess they do have a great tradition of the grove before going to the stadium and getting their *** kicked. Just remember how darick Rogers switched at the end and how that ended.
Denzel didn't have the grades until very late in the summer for UGA to be able to even consider. They didn't overlook him. They knew exactly what he was as a FB player. They also knew what he was as a student as well unfortunately. Ole MIss got Michael Oher qualified. That says it all. I read the Blind Side and was literally laughing out loud at the crap online he was able to scoot by with.
I couldn't care less about Treadwell- he was the guy that kept dropping passes that hit his hands in the all star game.
Tunsil was exactly what it looks like.
First off congratulations on getting a bunch of 5 stars. Second off come back in three years and tell us what it's like to be on probation.
You are and will forever be a doormat for schools like us. We appreciate your effort. Ole miss fans are so cute
Ole miss- Homecoming U
If YOU followed recruiting, you would know boosters money has nothing to do with school money(because school money actually shows up on the books)...and yes y'all have deep pockets boosters! I'm not a conspiracy theorist either, but I hope y'all get the death penalty.
The same one that made your entire defense look like morons on a flea flicker play.
Don't worry about it y'all will never smell the seccg much less play in it
Certainly no one on Ole MIss's team as they have never even sniffed the SECCG.
As for the answer, how about the coach and QB that already had the clock stopped and the play they knew they wanted to run geared up.
Dude, you do realize that your recruiting guy Kiffin was arrested for being high and breaking into cars in Tampa, right? What a great role model there....He applied to UGA, and the AD laughed his application off the desk. Glad that Ole MIss doesn't mind using him to do the dirty work.
See the difference is you're at home watching us play in that game. Have been for the last....well forever. And will continue to watch us. And every year will be saying "you know I really want us to play for the seccg" but you won't....ever
So by your logic. You being in the same division as alabama makes you better? Well you definitely graduated from ole miss
Hahaha this coming from a fan whose team has had more players arrested and in trouble in the last year and a half than any other SEC school!! Can't wait to see teams exposure that defense this year without all those superstars y'all had
These Miss st fans get cocky when they get a good recruiting class.
Must not know how to handle success.
I actually kind of liked ole miss. It's always fun to see who will battle miss state for most embarrassing sec member. At least Kentucky wins in basketball. Y'all just waste oxygen.
Come on man ole miss is the red headed step child of the sec....congrats to your class, but I got bad news... Your still ole miss and can't change it lol 37-10
Lol at this guy. .... I predict a bottom feeder finish for a school everyone is looking to find dirt on.
What dumbass team doesnt even make it the dome?
I hope g doesn't block you....I feel like ripping you to shreds tonight
