This is the feeling i'm having after following recruiting on a paid site for the 1st time for an entire season. From the flips, to the kids " playing the game " and even the Kelsey Griffen saga. I see why some NFL guys don't want to deal with the recruiting nonsense. Its gotten way out of hand.
Well if it makes you feel better this is about my 17th year and its been a strange year. I have seen things this year I have not seen ever. Part of that is the entrance of Twitter into the recruiting world the last 2 years and part of it is the personalities in this class. Even though we have no shot and never really did with Foster his recruitment has been a book unto itself.
I have seen what happened with Tunsil a couple of times but its pretty rare too. I have never seen UGA get this many in a class and have so many before the season even started.
Recruiting has changed drastically since Richt got there. The early commitments are almost out of control. The word commitment has changed quite a bit too. Now it means hold my place in line while I go look around to see if I can find something better. Used to if you had 25 committed you might lose 1 or 2 tops. UGA had very little drama the first 8 years of Richts tenure. The Greenlee flip was the first big issue I remember then we have had one almost every year since.
Bottom line is this year is very unique but with the way things are now I expect it to get much worse because of new rules, pressure to commit early etc. I think it will be harder for UGA to do as well because other schools will commit more to it. Meyer will be texting guys while sitting on the toilet at 3AM. Richt just wont do that. Plus places like Bama will go hire about 5 or 6 full time guys just to recruit and label them as some laim "staff assistant" guy.
Every year gets worse. The NCAA needs to do something before kids start getting offered in the 7th and 8th grade. Unfortunately, the new rules seem to loosen the reigns, not tighten them.
Don't get me wrong. I have followed recruiting for about 5 years now. But not like i have this year were i have to log on to 247, 24/7 LOL

+1 on Sic'em's post!
I have been following recruiting since 97 and used to get great info from the grapevine for free. We have had very few and rare seasons like this one. I would also say celebrate the commits we do get and don't let the ones we don't get drive you crazy. You are going to see ups and downs in recruiting over a decade of following.
People go crazy over a Marlon Brown commit and very few celebrate Michael Bennet.
Who knows.. we could have ended up with Tunsil who does a very good job for us but George Adeosun goes to Ariz. St. or Okl and ends up a 1st team AA and a first round draft pick.
BTW, you are one of the posters I look forward to seeing because you bring a common sense approach. So keep paying and talking!
Too late, I believe. I recall a story where LSU offered a kid in 8th grade.
Me too. I have been following recruiting since the 2011 class but wasn't a member of any sites so had to just put pieces together from different stories. This is the first class I have been a member of a site and got info from people who know what their talking bout (Rusty, G, Lowndes). I enjoy it but it's awfully aggravating and stressful. God only knows how the coaches feel when they recruit a guy so long and get Tunsiled. You saw how pissed everybody on this board was. Just think how the coaches felt. Their the ones putting in all the time recruiting.
You are exactly right about the NCAA needing to do something. Plus now they have unlimited texting and other stuff. I saw on t.v. the other day that they have pretty much unlimited access but they are going raise the standards and the kids have to make better grades to get in. How are the kids gonna study and make better grades when their gonna be on the phone ALL the time instead of just most the time. They really need an early signing period.
I've been doing this since 1979 in one form or another..
79-96 It was recruiting services with magazines, 900#'s to call at 1.99 a minute, radio talk shows or maybe a TV show or newspapers..
97 brought the internet sites and was a gamechanger..
With even more social media-Twitter etc. the madness has just exploded..
A Lie will make it half way around the World before the Truth puts his shoes on!
its not just recruiting. its everywhere. instant gratification and me me me. GO DAWGS!
Man...this post takes me back to my time at UGA. I used to go over to the computer lab in Aderhold (least crowded one on campus at the time) my senior year (97) to read the Grapevine and Alliance Sports.
SuperPrep, Jaime Newberg, and Tom Lemming had the big 900#'s at the time. Newberg also had the show BorderWars that used to come on Saturday mornings.
The internet and social media have definitely changed things over the past 15 years.
