you have to have a strong running game, especially in short yardage situations. Just look at Alabama and LSU.
Georgia's weakness has always been the OL, dating back to the early Donnan days. We don't recruit well, we don't develop well and we NEVER, EVER have depth at the position. 2002 might be the lone exception i the last 20 years. Until this changes, we will NOT win a National Championship.
I know Disney will disagree, so I've offered a 50% off ticket package for all those who believe in smoke and mirrors.
why are you here?
Rushing for touchdowns wins in the SEC. It's more than just the OL.
It's the Tailback. It's the QB. It's the fullback and tight ends. It's the way the playcalling sets up the scores.
2011: LSU had 35 rushing TDs.
Bama had 34 rushing TDs
2010: Auburn had 41 rushing TDs (and the worst defense for a National Championship in a long time).
2009: Bama had 31 rushing TDs
Florida had 30 rushing TDs
2008: Florida had 41 rushing TDs
Bama had 32 rushing TDs
2007: LSU had 35 rushing TDs
UGA had 32 rushing TDs
For what it's worth, UGA more than had the QB and defense to get it done last season.
But we only rushed for 15 TDs in 2011.
(to give you perspective... Hawaii rushed for more TDs in 2007 and they were all about the pass. Boston College rushed for more TDs in 2007. That was the year that Matt Ryan threw for 19 INTs but was still the #1 QB taken in the draft because he didn't have a supporting cast around him).
We've got a lot of room to improve from 2011 to where we need to be in 2012.
How we perform in the next 3 weeks will tell me a lot about our identity as a team.
