Dawgs247 Q&A: Ken Malcome

Malcome opens up in a Monday night interview about his suspension for the New Mexico State game, a frustrating lack of playing time and what it would take to change that.

  • Maybe he's not getting a chance bc it's all about him and not the team....been on his side the whole time and now I'm getting tired of this me, me, me stuff...UGA is 8-2 and playing in a game to clinch a chance to play in the SECCG and this is what he is talking about...I wonder why he's not playing

  • that was tough to read. my heart goes out to the kid, but boy he's just saying all the wrong things. He doesn't seem to take any responsibility for his place in the depth chart. He just doesn't get it. I'm sure he does run hard, but there's a heck of a lot more to being an SEC running back than just running hard. I hope Ken sticks it out, because I don't think he'll ultimately be any happier transferring out, but regardless he's got to improve the Eeyore woe is me attitude.

  • He talks like a person headed out of town. Good luck to him if he leaves, if he stays he should work his tail off and keep all of this me talk to himself. I agree with both of the first two post. KM needs to work on his attitude more than anything else IMO. Go DAWGS!

  • It's getting harder and harder to be in the kid's corner. I don't even know where to start with his comments. No way he is back next year.

  • I think he can be good, but you guys are right, his responses are troubling. I wish he would get his mind right, re-commit because he can be good but his responses are frustrating.

  • Carlton Thomas waited three years before he got significant carries. He was always behind Caleb, Washaun came in as a true freshman and played over him, Samuel was moved back from linebacker and put in front of him and Isaiah has been ahead of him since he signed his LOI. He's never complained once. Good luck Ken, don't let the door hit you on the way out...

  • I think he means well. He will be ok. He comes from a different line of thinking than most of us.the talent is there...... I bet he runs more in the next two games...

Right. You guys are piling on the guy like other redshirted players didn't express some frustration at one time or another. He's just a freshman, his time'll come. Watch how his tune changes once he gets some PT vs. Kentucky (and maybe Tech lol )

  • I hope the kid does get his chance but I really don't think he will be back next year.

  • He doesn't get it.

  • I also think he knows that we are about to have some more stud freshman running backs coming in next season and this may be his only window to prove something before he really gets buried on the depth chart. But, regardless of what he does from here on out, especially after those comments and that attitude, he probably is gone because I don't see a change coming.

  • Reddirtinafro... the kids who complained like Malcolm last year were all shown the door. Won't be surprised to see the same here.

  • He obviously has hard feelings for the coaching staff. With that attitude, I can't see him lasting very long. His playing time will improve if his attitude and practice time are positive. I think he will be gone after next spring practice.

    dsgentry

  • He never says 'What am doing wrong'? Its always 'I'm doing everything right, I just got to get my chance', or 'I don't know why the coaches don't realize I'm good'. This is an indication that he feels like he is doing enough as is and he will not be giving additional effort to get the job done. He also seems to have the 'why should I give effort if they don't notice it' attitude. Ken Malcome just doesn't get it, and after reading this I'm not sure he will.

It's not that he's frustrated.... it's that he blames the coaches for everything. You have to read between the lines here. He doesn't accept responsibility, even for his 1 game suspension. He talks as if the coaches have it in for him.

This is the kind of attitude we had a problem with in 2010. If Malcome doesn't change it, he won't be here next year. We've got way too much talent at RB coming in to be nursing cancerous attitudes.

  • Had to stop reading his responses halfway through because I got so frustrated with his repsonses. He asks, "what do I have to do?" The answer is: change your attitude.

Agreed, it is really that simple. If you want it, do what is needed. You got your sympathy carries against Auburn, now go earn your touches.

  • Wait until Keith gets here....don't see Malcome wearing the G next Fall..hate it because the kid has talent...definitely could help us win ball games but his heart and mind is not there.

    jaddison8

  • "But I didn’t do it for no coaches, nobody else. I did it for myself..."

And that is exactly why he is at the bottom of the depth chart. The light bulb moment has just not occurred for this kid. I don't think he'll ever see any meaningful snaps at UGA. I hope he gets his degree.

    Tickle

  • Sure he's frustrated about not playing, but look at the reasons...hurt a bunch, competition, attitude (quit the team) and then suspended. Bust your butt for the team (not me) and playing time will take care of itself. He looked good on those 3 carries in the Auburn game.
Push for PT on special teams and change your outlook or reconsider moving on.

    Towson25

  • From what I took from the interview, he is trying to play/practice through pain.....I know there is always 2 sides to every story but come on give the young man some carries, see what he has. We could use another bruiser to run up the gut against LSU.
