Did anyone notice...?

  • I did not see the Walsh FG as the loss. A 47 yarder with a crosswind is not a gimme. I saw not being willing to win the game on 3rd down at the end and being willing to give a 5th year senior the ball back. Which leads me to the major flaw as viewed from my TV-Murray does not appear to be a big game QB. Fumbles in the last 2 games were HUGE momentum swings not to mention the INTs and the 4th qtr repeatedly saw Murray throwing to goodness knows who. (It looked like he was trying NOT to throw INTs) The receivers were looking the same way. I think that was probably why they didnt let him throw in that last third down in regulation and also why they did not try to make a first down in the first OT. I really like Murray, but lately the moments appear to be a bit bigger than he is.
It is difficult for me to find fault with play calling when we simply could not execute, run or pass.

  • Good post.

    It was a team loss.
Offense couldn't run or get that last first down to seal the victory.
Defense failed in the 2 minute drill.
Special Teams couldn't make the 42 yarder from straight away in the first OT.

Fault lies with everyone not named Boykin or King (including the coaches).

Agreed that this was definitely a team loss. Starting with turnovers and our inability to run the ball or get any real push up front in the run game. For anyone that wants to criticize Richt for being "too conservative", he went for it on 4th down on our first possession inside the 10 yard line and we end up losing yardage a run. Murray had been reckless with the ball so I can't fault him and Bobo too much for playing it close to the vest at the end of regulation.

This was a classic case of not putting a team away and why we are in desperate need of more RBs and offensive linemen...

  • Imo where you really lost it was when you let a stagnant MSU offense that was getting throttled all game just come up and rip through you in that last 2 minute drill.

Very true. In the last drive we only rushed 3 and dropped 8 on virtually every down and had ZERO pass rush. Can't do that with an experienced QB like Cousins. To his credit, he marched them right down the field and scored. MSU made the plays to win. UGA didn't. End of story.

  • EXCELLENT. Thank you for the post. I don't know if I buy the FG being missed. We had it right there and with Walsh's leg it should have been a gimme but not based on his recent escapades.
