Foster feels the love in Athens

With Bulldogs commit and friend Tray Matthews playing host, five-star Alabama commitment Reuben Foster says he had a 'wonderful time' on Saturday's visit to UGA.

  • Wow this sounds encouraging for us. I just cant get my hopes up too much

  • i keep thinking about crowell's recruitment-- bama wanted him but we NEEDED him. and, in the end, we got him. the foster situation is very similar; i hope the outcome is, too!

  • Rusty did Foster discuss his commitment to Bama or if he will do the "think things over, make a final decision down the road" thing?

    Thanks for the update

  • What are the chances, Rusty, that Reuben signs with Bama, Georgia? In your honest opinion?

  • I think the young man would start a lot sooner for UGA, than he will start for the Tide. He already has the size, so he would just need to get the defense down, and he could see some action on the field in 2013. I don't really think UGA would red shirt this kid. I think UGA has a real good shot at this kid right now, as opposed to where he was prior to Saturday. He would be one kid it would really be nice to flip.

  • I think what we need to keep doing is exactly what Foster said, and that is to show him how much we need him...Yes he will do quiet well at Bama, but the dawgs can use him, in my opinion much, much more and he can make a huge name for himself along the way....Its still going to be tough, if not for any reason, other than his family is a Bama fan...that to me in the end will play a huge part, but the coaching staff is doing great by staying in touch with him and letting him know he will fit in our defensive schemes.....I still here tha he has been recruiting for bama, so as I said, its going to be tough, but it does appear we have a shot....go dawgs...

  • Bama doesn't Redshirt everyone. This year, Trey DePriest, Vinnie Sunseri, Jeoffery Pagan, Hasean Clinton-Dix, Xzaiver Dickson, Christion Jones...and maybe others...possibly Harrison Jones...anyways, you guys in GA know that Saban plays the best, REGARDLESS of class. And you and I really don't know the truth when it comes to these kids being suspended and then leaving/transferring. I am willing to bet its not Sabans way of making room for fresh younger talent.

i agree that saban has shown a willingness to play freshmen especially at LB (see mosley and hightower among others) and that foster is talented enough to play as a freshman wherever he goes, but no one in this thread has said anything about players getting suspended or transferring from alabama under odd circumstances. seems odd for you to have brought that up.

just out of curiosity, exactly how much would you be "willing to bet"?

  • If we can get him we would have two Reuben's on the roster. That's got to be good luck.
We can also have the team rub John Theus' head for luck as they leave the locker room. If we could also land Brandon Kublanow we could double our luck. Nkemdiche has a red skunk-stripe too.

Some folks say they'd rather be lucky than good. Now, I'm not superstitious, but why chance it.

per gentry above: "Don't think you can put any percentages on it."

maybe you could hazard a guess about percentages? for myself, i don't know what reuben will ultimately do, but i can tell you that if one of our commits was flirting with bama the way reuben is flirting with UGA, i would not be comfortable with it. will be interesting to see how long saban lets this go on, or if he goes after foster like he did with branden greene.

About 2-3 weeks ago I said he had about a 25% chance of being a Bulldog.

At this moment, I'd put that number at anywhere from 33% to 40%.

Say he decommits from Bama and commits to UGA, I'd move that number to the high 90%+ region.

He seems torn with what he wants to do.

  • I think it almost appears that Foster has gone from solid to Alabama, to, "Somebody, give me a reason not to go to Alabama". His buddy just may give him that reason.

Sounds like he is enjoying the process. He had a UGA offer when he committed to Alabama. That tells me all I need to know. UGA lost to a team that Alabama beat by 6 touchdowns. Alabama beat LSU by three touchdowns; whereas, LSU beat Georgia by almost 5 touchdowns. Kid is a Bama fan, his family are Bama fans, and Bama has more to offer than Georgia (Georgia fans know their only shot is to say that he won't play as much at Alabama and that is so far from true).

Sounds like he is just trying to get in Tray Matthew's ear about Bama.

i appreciate where you're coming from, but if you really think that reuben is just "enjoying the process" and not looking seriously at georgia you need to look again. i'm not gonna hate on bama because y'all have the healthiest program in the country right now hands down, but if one of our commits was acting like reuben i would be concerned.

he and tray are definitely recruiting each other, but if we apply your logic ("he had a UGA offer when he committed to alabama. that tells me all i need to know.") then it's equally silly to think matthews would flip.

and lest you forget, alabama lost to LSU last year as well. at home.
