Green/Kamara deal...

  • Rusty or Gentry

I have seen that we turned down Keyante Green's commitment because we told him we were only taking 1 RB (Henry). I also understand that Alvin Kamara is visiting this weekend and we are still recruiting him at RB. Granted I saw this story on AJC so I take that with a grain of salt but can you or anyone explain the situation more. Alabama fans are hounding Uga fans and CMR about being a liar and I just want to get the facts right.

Don't listen to the Bama fans on the AJC. Most are Tech fans talking trash, the others are bandwagon fans.

Not G or Rusty but if it's true we turned away Green and would accept Kamara, I would think that the coaching staff is happy with just getting Henry but would take Kamara because they view him as an elite prospect. Regardless of position, you never turn away a player you consider elite. If that's the case, I don't have a problem with it and could care less what Bama fans say about it. There the last fan base who can discuss moral high ground when it comes to coaches and recruiting. Maybe there upset because they know Kamara is a guy that Saben is after very hard, 105 letters from bama in one day.

  • Kamara is being recruited as an athlete, not as a RB.

  • Who cares? I'm glad we turned him down, don't care what we told him true or not. To justify it if you want to, Kamara can play in the slot, which Green can't, and Kamara would be a great return man.. and Green can't. Kamara could be considered an "athlete."

True but I believe we'd try him at RB first. But hey if the coaches didnt want Green but would take Kamara thats 100% fine with me. We just had to many players above Green on our board we thought we could get. Or maybe one was already a silent commit whatever the case may be I support CMR and the coaches decisions.

just tell the "bama fans" that it's better to not accept a commitment than to accept it and then revoke it on NSD.

  • Should Henry hit a growth spurt he could be a defensive end before the LOI is in.

  • I think unless I am missing a lot about the character of CMR, he would not lie to the kid and say we weren't accepting anymore RB's and then go after another one. What most likely happened is either, CMR told him they would keep him in mind, because they were worried about his grades or something similar to that, or two, he told the kid that he did not fit into their plans right now. If you are the kid, and you are repeating what happened, I would think your feelings or pride got hurt a little if not both, and you are embellishing the story to put it in a more favorable light for you. It's human nature and lessens the sting a little bit.

What mature adult would take the word of a 16 or 17 year old kid without at least a tad of skepticism? Even your own kid.

  • USC turned him down earlier in the week also. I think Tenn turned him down too if I remember the article. Too many other guys ahead of him on the board.

Henry is going to be a BEAST but most don't think he will play RB at all. He will play somewhere.

Take a look at the blogs on the AJC, and you will see page after page of supposedly adults that do. As long as they can direct some venom against UGA, you could tell them, that UGA only recruits kids with criminal records and they would expound their wisdom concerning that. That's why I was hoping we could play Alabama this year, because I think, all things given, we could shut them up a little, but such is not the case. Now, our only hope is in the SECCG and if this UGA team comes together, Alabama might just wish they had skipped Atlanta.

  • We turned Green down cause Tyrene Jones said he was coming to UGA. Nothing to do wth Kamara.

I think he will play running back. He brings a dimension to the running game that UGA can use. He moves the line when he hits it, and once he gets free, he is a bear to bring down. He also has deceptive speed if you watch his high light film. Take a look at a picture of this kid, and you will see a physical specimen, already that will only get stronger within the next year. He is training to have an immediate impact for UGA's running game and my guess is he will. Think a younger Jerome Bettis, with better speed.
I suspect that the issue with Green may be his grades. UGA will try and take another back, if they can find a good enough one, to add to depth. Green is also a smaller back, and at 5"9", he probably can't put on a lot more weight and maintain his speed. It is a shame in a way, because I am sure UGA could get him, as he is anxious to play for UGA, I believe. Kamara might be a good one to get, and he has stated that UGA having Henry already, would not make him back away, because he believes they could compliment each other down the road. I haven't seen or heard a lot on him, but I am sure he is more the size UGA is looking for. I see Henry starting his first year on the team, and the other back if recruited, maybe even red shirting. We already have Crowell, marshall and Gurley, to play, so Henry would be a compliment rather than just someone that had to fit into the rotation. Samuel, can bang somewhat, as well as Malcome, but not like this kid, Henry can, and Samuel is on his last year, and you never know what brand of Malcome you are getting. I think Malcome will transfer if he doesn't get to start this year, As the way he talks, he is more "ME, than "TEAM", but I also think his contribution, unless he is ready to go physically and mentally, will be minimal at best for this year. The three guys in front of him are more skilled, and I would bet even Crowell is ready to go this year. Malcome is a little bit of a banger, but he tends to lose the ball sometimes, so he is not the guy you want to get those few tough yards, unless he hold onto the ball a lot better than he did last year. I guess if I had to get 1-2 yards I would look for Gurley to get them, rather than Malcome, unless there is a lot of improvement from last year on Malcome's part.

  • Just remind the Bama fans and the Tech fans that we turned Green's commit away - we did not accept then turn him back later when Kamara or someone like him came ready to commit. We did not say come on and then force him to a greyshirt. We did not tell him to come and then fake an injury to get a medical redshirt. I can give you other phrases to tell them that would be suitable but not appropriate for the board....lol

  • My personal opinion on this situation is that if indeed we do not plan on taking another RB in the class, then if that is what he was told, then I'm ok with it....However, we did indeed offer him and if we do offer another one along with Henry then you could make the assumption as some have done that we are acting like a Bama.....I think the coaches were at least upfront with him and didn't accept his committment, but it will create a little negativity towards us if we do take another RB in the class....But if we are going to get to where the Bama's and LSU's are then there will be some tough decisions made for the good of the team that will end up on the front page of the AJC Sports pages....I think we should expect some negative feedback from Bama fans saying we are no different than Bama and Saban...I don't think that is the case, but that's the way some will percieve it....But hey what do we care what Bama thinks...I do wish the young man well and it is a shame that he couldn't play for his home state...I wish we could have given him the opportunity and of course it is still a long ways from NSD...go dawgs

  • The overall consensus is here is that Kamara can play the slot as well, so it seems to me he's more valuable than Green based on that versatility. Also he can be a returner I think??
