How many L would cost Richt his job?

  • First, let me say I really like Mark Richt. I think he is very good coach and an even better person. I have tons of respect for him on the field and off. He shares his Christian beliefs openly but doesn't use them to bring in players. Huge respect for him.

He is obviously on the hot seat this year. How many losses will cost him his job from the UGA fanbase? No flame just curious what your own fanbase thinks. No flaming other schools please just honest opinions.

2nd part--Who would you guys want to take over if he retired/quit/got fired now or in the future. Its a great job and tons of guys would want it?

  • No set number of L's just like there is no set number of W's he needs to reach. We need to be competitive for the East if we don't win it. I would say if he loses to USCe, UF and UT he is gone. Other than that, its going to take slipping up somewhere. If were looking at an 8-4 year, it will depend on who we lost to and how we lost.

  • With the schedule being as easy as CMR will ever see I think 8-4 would not be good enough. Especialy if one of those 4 is to UF. He cant lose to another 1st year head coach at UF. That would be the 3rd time UF has had a new coach during CMR's career at UGA and he would be 0-3 in those games. As far as who I would want to take over? I would hope ADGM would look at Mullen if he does well again this year. Patterson at TCU . Peterson at BSU and a guy like Strong at Loisville might get a look. Our new AD knows Mullen and Strong well from his time at UF. I hope CMR wins every game and avoid a coaching search.

That is what it is going to come down to for him.

I think he'll do it and stay on for a while. I really do but if we make a move I would have to trust McGarity to have had time to prepare and know what he is doing. Would be hilarious to take Florida's new coach and we might be able to do it. Mullen and Strong are both good thoughts. Wouldnt mind seeing Kirby get a look either.

  • With this schedule, I would think anything worse than 9-3 and he's toast. Losing to Florida would be tough to overcome. Losing to Boise or Ga Tech may be too much to overcome.

  • ADGM said he wanted to see the program progress and for the team to be competitive. So I'm guessing as long as we are in the hunt for the east and not get blown out by anyone, CMR should be fine. I think Kirby is #1 right now. He basically runs the same D as TG and he is a UGA guy. Peterson wouldn't be a bad hire though.

  • I'm a die hard Canes fan and you could not believe how hard I was rooting for Georgia to let Richt go last season so we could have a shot at him. With that being said I hope he stays at UGA until he decides to retire. Our QBs coach at the high school im coaching at now played under him at FSU and has nothing but great things to say. He takes every opportunity he can to meet with him at coaches clinics etc. Richt is a great coach and an even better man. You guys have a good one trust me. Have a little faith thumbsup

  • I agree with you 100% I just read what he said about coaching at UGA on the Morning Coffee, and now I'm thinking we should let CMR turn the program back around bc we won't find another coach that is as loyal as he is

Don't think we'll be worrying about replacing him. We'll go 9-3 and he'll get an extension from the new AD.

Love hearing good words about our guys from non UGA guys. Thanks Swagga! Reasons like that are why I am not ready to get rid of him. Im not too worried about it. Like Deputy said, we will go 9-3, or better, and Richt will be safe for years to come.

  • Look, we all like CMR. He's a quality guy, great person, etc ... The media makes it out like we as dawg fans are out to get him, but i think what we all want is for him to WIN and keep him job. But if he doesn't turn it around this year guys, we need to get real about this and realize that he has had a chance and it's time for a change, painful as it may be.

    New AD?

Well, relatively new. McGarity (spelling?) replaced Evans after the panties/DUI fiasco. Didn't hire Richt, and most ADs like to bring in their own coaches, etc.

  • I gotcha... I thought you were anticipating another AD after McGarity for some reason. I was like, "now wait a second... what am I missing?" Haha.
