  • I liked the way VT came into the stadium, but since I haven't been to a uga since 2005...getting in the stadium with a ticket is all I need till kickoff. I plan to go to a couple this year if it works it, otherwise I'll be on the couch.

  • Would love to see the late 3rd quarter tv time out song to make it's appearance again. I remember Sanford stadium going crazy during the 2007 and 2008 home games as the sideline and defense on the field got amped to the perfectly timed jam. Getting chills just thinking about it...

One of my favorite traditions in College Football, TBH, is when they play "Jump Around" and the University of Wisconsin home games. The entire stadium goes nuts; it's great to watch.

We could definitely use some sort of tradition along these lines; the right song at the right time can work wonders. Why not "Boom" by P.O.D.?

  • All the ideas are great. Honestly i don't know half of the songs u guys suggested and Im 30. Lol. But i think we do need to get back to finding that niche on gameday. The players don't have anything to feed off of and neither do us fans. We need a new song to come out too at the start of the game and 4th quarter. These kids feed off of music and fan enthusiasm for the game. Im pretty sure most of them are into hip hop and pop music. So we need to talk to them and the student body to see what needs to be done. Also the north campus needs to open back up for gameday. This is a classic location in the classic city. Hopefully we hire a president that acknowledges the mystic of gameday n Athens. Go dawgs!!!

  • Seems like a good way to do it would be to poll the players on some their favorite tunes to work out to/open up a game. Probably get a good list of 10-15 solid songs to choose from.

Definitely down with some red smoke/black smoke/pyrotechnics!

  • I think we need a new PA announcer. Ours is so bland. Also, do we have to honor someone on every TV timeout, every quarter and half of the half-time.

I am not sure what everyone does for game days but I am in the RV lot and we always have a good time over on Oconee St. so that part of it we don't lack. Obviously you can tell when some games are bigger than others. However, I think we need something going on inside the stadium to keep people going and pumped up.

I wish somehow we could close in the East endzone. I know some are not in favor of it but if there was some way to build above the bridge and keep the bridge in view with glass or something that would be awesome. The reason why I say that is our stadium is not loud and all the sound escapes there. It is a shame. The loudest I have heard our stadium was the 2007 blackout against Auburn. It is a consistant problem.

i love the PA guy. Nothing pumps me up more than to hear him say, "if your blood runs red and black, get on your feet and lets make some Sanford Stadium noise for the #__ team in the land, your georgia bulldogs!!!"

Oh I love that part as well. Get chill bumps thinking about it. I think it is more during the game for me.

  • Baba O'Reilly is a great song to get you pumped especially at a high volume. I don't personally think the pre-game music is the issue. I personally think it's the fans to be honest. Most of the people, before and during the game, are sitting down. Even whe the game is started, the student section isn't even full. That makes a HUGE difference in terms of "getting pumped up" for pre-game. Places like VT and Wisconsin, the stadium is full before the kickoff. WAY before the kickoff. At Sanford, it starts to get there by kickoff.

The Auburn blackout was electric because more people were in the stadium because people had a feeling something special was happening. A "blackout" of the stadium does that. It was a unique occassion and the team, and fans, responded. That place was loud as hell. There have been other times that Sanford was loud but trying to capture that lightning in the bottle is hard and it has nothing to do with pre-game music.

Everyone here can tell stories of when they got up in the stands and cheered a big play only to have someone behind them yell at them to sit down. You don't get that in most other stadiums for the most part. Sure, some sections are like that but not the TV-viewable sections.

Fix the fans who come to the stadiums to sit, and get the students to come in earlier and rowdier, and you'll see a huge atmosphere difference. Changing the music is just putting lipstick on the pig, It doesn't solve the problem, only makes it look/sound different.

How do you feel the gameday atmosphere in Athens compares to others?

    More pregame music?

    You fine with it?

Very interested in your thoughts on that

i have been to VT to watch one of my former players. It is unbelievable. the minute the crowd hears Metallica, they go nuts. they are also in the stadium before the game and very loud before the intro. i don't think anybody wants to miss the intro. I think UGA needs to play the live version of thundrstruck. the one with the long intro. i could see it now, the crowd knows "its on" when they hear the first thunder of the song and the team comes out at the first "you've been thunderstruck"

when we get the other team in a third down situation, play the thunder "loud" before the play.

I think they need to do the following:

    1) Talk to NanoLumens/Sony/etc about flexible displays. The technology is still in its infancy, but has great potential in sports arena settings. Try to partner with one of them as a case study. Find a good fabrication company to create a metal tunnel what accounts for the goalpost/etc that will extend to approximately the front of the end zone. Then apply the flexible displays to the outside of the tunnel. The flexible displays would obviously have to be attached in some fashion that was easily removable so that the structure can be broken down and stored again quickly after the team runs out. On the outside of the tunnel you could run all sorts of graphics and so forth for the fans. It would also have a "wow" factor with the recruits and the like as it would be unlike any other entrance tunnel anywhere. These graphics could compliment the scoreboard video as well as the graphics on the slim boards located around the stadium. Have a easily detachable large G logo at the end of the tunnel that completely conceals the entrance and can be pulled back quickly and easily to let the team run out. Think of the way stage curtains work in the high school auditorium - a simple string or cord could pull it off to one side or another and let the team run out.

    2) Take advantage of the rap scene in Atlanta. You will potentially drive older fans nuts, but we've seen that Sanford can adapt to newer music in recent years. Most of the players, as well as most of the recruits, are going to be rap fans. Go to Outkast, Gucci Mane, Ludacris, etc, and offer them 100k for whichever one makes the best beat/intro for UGA. It doesn't need to be long. It doesn't even need to be a song, it can be simply a beat and a hook. We all saw how much the players and stadium enjoyed the "Superman" beat without any words a few years back. The Jock Jams CDs are filled with identifiable beats with almost no words - it doesn't take a composed song to be an intro. Find something like that with a little more edge, combined with acknowledgement to the rap star so recruits are impressed. Put the rapper up on the big screen talking about the Dawgs. Pay multiple young Georgia hip-hop folks a little money to dress up in GA gear and talk about the Dawgs on the big screen. High school kids love being a part of things that are cool - make them think UGA is one of those things.

    3) Pink Floyd is a decent suggestion in one aspect - just my opinion - and that's with their song "Time." Utilize the clicking down of the clocks into a frenzy in some part of the pregame. Perhaps use it as the players are lining up in the tunnel to signal the crowd that the time has come. It sounds a little cheesy, but if done right it could be exciting. It's also the perfect easily identifiable symbol of game time, time to play, etc.

Those are just some basic thoughts that I think would make it more entertaining to watch, get the crowd/team going, and be a hit with recruits - which is always important.

  • I'll always upvote a Pink Floyd mention.

I'm trying to think of a Pink Floyd song that would fit. They don't translate well to football.

Golden Earrings "Radar Love" has a good football drum-beat. Lyrics don't fit well.

What about Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone" which the old Atlanta Knights minor league hockey team used? It's ominous with heavy bass and drums and gets a crowd fired up (much better IMO than "2001: A Space Odyssey" which SC uses). And as for lyrics, you can't do much better than a chorus of "when the bullet hits the bone"!

I haven't been to a game in a while, but if there's still a problem getting fans in the seats well before kickoff, something needs to be done.
