    Very good. Used to dive the flint river alot, and would always make a point to try and hunt along Kichafonnee creek. The Flint got to hot with the HB that was passed, and the DNR started taking the fun out of it. So now only dive the rivers that don't attract as much attention. Quail have made a dramatic comeback in the last fifteen years.

    As this is off-topic to football, a quick answer:

    We just finished the Quail Unlimited Annual Hunt; very successful.

    As reserve hunts are mostly 99% all pen-raised bird releases, hunting is always successful if you can hit them! Birds are unlimited and you're always guaranteed to bag at least 12!

    If any one wants recommendations on reserve choices, I'd be glad to provide them on the PM Board. ...

  • If you really like to hunt quail, I would also recommend Burke county. They also have a habitat condusive for quail. The coyotes have become a problem in many areas of the state. But the loss of habitat has been another reason.

    You're certainly right about the natural population of quail coming back to the wild, and I personally have done quite a lot of arrowhead hunting along the Flint River; have quite a nice collection framed on the wall in my study.

    With Quail Unlimited's profit from the annual hunt, these monies are dispersed all throughout South Georgia and the nation to provide both habitat, feed, and birds to farmers and plantations where the quail population will have a better chance to flourish.

    Hopefully I won't be DownVoted for posting this as it was a reply to a Board poster that I didn't initiate.

    Just something I thought might be informative and of interest for all Dawgs247 football and outdoor enthusiasts!

    tstephen is right; Albany, GA is considered to be the Quail Capital of the world!

    Unprecedented quail hunting and available reserves!

    I just upvoted you. Two more things that are dear to my heart, besides UGA. Love to hunt and love to hunt artifacts. Actually dive for a living(not relics, thats a hobby I've been into for 35 years now.) I love the Flint River, found some nice bones in that watershed.

  • Nice to see some of you guys are Sowega boys like myself. I used to hunt quail with my dad as a kid and absolutely loved it. He raised and trained his own dogs. Unfortunately, I lost contact with the sport, but I've got Dad's shotguns in the closet and they have many a notch.

    Thanks! And what fun it must be to be able to devote the time, energy, and effort to do that for a living. I envy you having the health, strength, and energy that is required to scuba dive more than occasionally! While diving is fun, it's also really work!

    I have been scuba diving since 1966; a long time. More occasionally just purely recreational now at my age! But I do love the underwater world!

  • Its as close as you'll ever come to walking on the moon. And it is alot of work mentally and physically. Travel all over the united states and get paid to do it. Has great benefits. I get to watch some great high school football in places you wouldn't normally get to go. One of the first things I look at when diving a new area. Research the surrounding schools and check out the friday nite lights.

    What a great career! And I am jealous, even though i really do know just how mentally and physically challenging underwater diving, salvage, whatever can be. Particularly salvage!

    Did that once in an emergency situation while coming back to port in at Panama City after a day of diving, and was called on to try and help a vessel that had hit the jetties and was taking on water.

    So fast in fact, that had we had not been right behind them coming in and not able able to temporarily plug their bow hole to let them get to dock. According to the ship Captain, they would certainly have sunk.

    Nice experience to be in a position to do that, but now at my ripe old age of 63, I hope I'm not ever placed in the position again to have to do that! Salvage diving, and for that fact all diving not recreational is indeed stressful. Thankfully my 'salvage' situation, and I use the word loosely, didn't involve much work.

    Good luck and best wishes to you for a safe and uneventful diving career! May you always have unrestricted sunlight between yourself and the surface!

    I live in Leesburg and work in Albany. I may just take you up on that sometime. Thanks.
    I was an avid deer hunter until my hips went bad and I had to have one replaced. My main squeeze (Yankee girl) won't eat venison but I might be able to talk her into quail. Just tell her it's a little Cornish hen.
