  • I think he will make it in the NFL . Not sure it was the best business decision for him , but I hope he does well and gets in the right situation for himself .

  • Good Luck to the young man. I believe he was thinking about staying until Garner left and then his decision was made simple.

  • Is John Taylor that good???

Why leave when you could be one of, if not, the top tackle to come out next year? It just seems foolish.

  • No way he's a third round draft pick. He's 6'6 355 lbs who constantly gets pushed around by lineman 50 pounds lighter. He seemed pretty decent as a pass rusher but he's not a good run stopper. Whatever, all I know is a brand new guy is going to have to be ready to be the "guy" at nose. Mayes, or Taylor, or both will really have to step up.

  • He could have used the extra year. Oh well.

  • bad bad move on kwame’s part. Very bad counseling from whoever he spoke to.

  • Good move for Kwame, in my opinion. I'm not trying to be counter-argumentative, here.

    1) He's given the Dawgs 4 years. Expecting more than that is greedy from a fanbase, imo (asking for it is very understandable, though)

    2) I don't see the pushed around comments. He got pushed around no more than Jarvis Jones, Jordan Jenkins, Garrison Smith, Alec Ogletree, etc.. Kwame really does have some good film from 2012. However (like a lot of guys on our defense... even the great ones), there are bad plays, too. Kwame didn't get pushed around by under-sized centers. He got cut a lot. He got double-teamed. And he had plays go away from him. He isn't as disruptive at NT as John Jenkins was in 2011. But he wasn't that far from it, either.

    3) Where is he going to find better coaching? In the NFL or with Chris Wilson? Where is he going to find better conditioning? In the NFL with no other obligations on his time or at UGA?

He did give up a few things by not returning.
Most notably is a chance to move up in the draft and get guaranteed money.
But the Geathers family has never been concerned with moving up in the draft (although the rest of the family left after 3 seasons to Kwame's 4).

His intent is to make a roster, perform on the field, and get that guaranteed money as soon as he establishes himself. Free agency has a way with young talent in the NFL. Just like in the draft... it only takes 1 team to love you to give you the dough.

The other things he gave up are the things that players love about college football (namely, college and friends).

But he's exchanging that for a payday. And the vast majority of college kids do actually leave school for a career. Almost all of us do it at some point. He's choosing to do it now rather than a year later.

LOL. What? He was constantly getting pushed around. He was rarely in the backfield. He was 3-6 yards upfield. And yes, he was getting pushed around by single centers constantly. He was less and less double teamed as the year went on. If I was a coach I wouldn't have double teamed him either. He got turned sideways most plays. He was always high. Forget his height, learn to play LOW!!! John Jenkins werects rave is first year. So referencing 2011 isn't very impressive. 2012 John Jenkins was a stud. Kwame will be lucky to be drafted. 7th founder at best. Let's all be realistic about him. He had some good plays, but the majority of the time he was on the field he was not productive. Easily the weakest link on the defense.

Easily the weakest link on the defense.

    See the inside linebackers.

Kwame led the defensive line in tackles for a loss at the nose tackle position (seriously).
He had the same number of sacks as at NT as John Jenkins got this season at DE.

His 6 QB hurries were more than John at the NT position last season.

16 solo tackles were more than John Jenkins last year at the nose as well.

And considering the fact that Kwame assisted in 24 more tackles (to John's 14 last season), I hope you realize that the weakest link on the defense was actually the inside linebackers.

Kwame and John Jenkins made an awful lot of plays this year 4+ yards beyond the line of scrimmage in pursuit. Those are plays that if defended properly get shut down by ILBs for 2 or fewer yards.

I tend to agree with you. I do think if he came back he would be better and a higher draft pick but wish him the best.

  • He did a good job while playing more snaps than normal after Abry's injury..The job of the nose tackle is to be double teamed by the center and a guard..Kwame commanded that respect..He allowed Ogletree,Jarvis, Gillard,Herrera and C-Rob to make tackles.
