really enjoyed this, rusty. it's a good time for us to remember that the most important thing is to find good athletes who fit into the scheme and culture of the program, not to just load up on 5* kids and assume everything will work itself out.

a couple of quick observations/questions. first, i noticed 3 of the players profiled are OL-- is it your view that OL are the hardest to project in terms of success at the next level? not to single out bean anderson, who has been criticized enough, but i thought he would be all-conference when he came out of high school...

second, i noticed that 5 of the 6 players profiled were offensive rather than defensive players. my intuition, however, is that it seems like a lot of our more unheralded recruits who went on to enjoy great careers were on the defensive side of the ball (pollack, blue, thomas davis, and rambo among others). assuming it isn't simply coaching differences (i don't think that hypothesis holds up), are there possible reasons why lower-rated or more unheralded kids might tend to gravitate toward/thrive on one side of the ball as opposed to the other, or do you think it's really just kind of unpredictable?

Too bad there's no simple test to measure heart or desire.....or idiocy.

Thomas Davis was a 2 star player with only 1 D1 offer that became the 14th overall pick in the draft.

I grew up watching Ducky Wall on WALB (NBC Channel 10) out of Albany. Ahhhh..those were the days!!
