Murray's Interceptions

  • WTH?

Miss St's defensive secondary? Errant throws? Wrong WR patterns? Forcing the ball?

Tell me about it!!!! Aaron Murray has got to stop forcing throws or it's going to be a long rest of the season. Oh and I hope we don't have to win a game with a field goal!!

  • Better throws would have been completions in my opinion. More often than not, he wasn't getting enough loft on two of the picks.

Another one, it looked like he was leading the receiver a bit too much (or it was a bad route).

    Why???
I'm not sure. But I think when a qb takes a licking, his mechanics and timing diminish as the game goes on.

  • Better to get that out and on tape now and get it corrected asap. We don't need that on the road against SEC teams. Some of it was protection but Aaron I consider a vet now.

I agree. I don't think we'll go into practice with the big head this week, and that's a good thing. I think we can shut down Tennessee's running game and make Bray force some throws...i can't wait to see the improved secondary get some shots on Da'Rick. hope Murray gets it straight, we're gonna need to jump out on em early, it's a night game in Neyland Stadium.

  • Murray needs to step his play up. He is forcing balls to his receivers that are hot at times during the game. Ive watched him closely the past 2 years and thats when his INT's come. The one to Mitchell in the first half was him trying to force the ball to a receiver that had just caught two passes back to back. Charles was wide open on that play. The 2nd pick to the linebacker was not his fault. Samuel needed to clear that backer out by hitting the flats hard but he trotted out there and the backer stayed home. The last pick for the touchdown was forcing it to Charles. He was open but Murray needs to put air under the pass and Charles scores a 45 yard TD. I love Murray as our QB, but he scares me with his play at times. (IE) SC game with fumble, Florida last year with the pick to seal the game. Honestly, I think we need to roll him out more bc of his height. From the look today it seems that he can barely see over the line at times. But the kid is a baller, and I will take him anyday of the week as my QB. I think when it's all said and done, he will be the one of the best QB n UGA history. I wish he will take a look at Drew Brees tape and see how he maneuvers around the pocket to find the open man. Just my opinion. But great win, loved the D today. We should be leading the country in INT's. LOL!!! Go dawgs!!! GATA!!! Valley

  • Reminds me of Stafford his last year....I held my breath everytime he dropped back to pass.

  • we need to remember he is a sophomore.....judge him as a sophomore...i think he is doing great...he is not Brees, yet....

I know he's only a sophmore but all im sayin is that he can learn alot from watching film of Brees and learn how he finds those windows and shifts around in the pocket to find the open man. Now the Oline has to play better, but some of the INT's were forced. Thats all I'm hoping he will do. Love the kid, I just know he can play better that's all. Go Dawgs!!!! GATA!!! Valley

  • I think he would benefit from staying out of the film room this week.

He seems to be trying to over analyze things and become more than he is, quicker than he should.

Get out of the pocket and tuck it a few more times a game and be Aaron Murray. Aaron Murray did pretty damn good last year, not the guy whom he is trying to be.

I know for fact that one pic was because Samuel ran an incorrect route underneath a slant route that Murray was attempting to hit. The slant was there and it was the correct read but he was not counting on the LB covering Samuel to be drifting right in line of the pass. I know on TV it looked like Murray just drilled it right to the guy.
The pic the was to Malcolm Mitchell he led him too much. Could be route or whatever but I he should be able to adjust and make a correct throw. If a reciever get redirected I'd hope the qb does throw where he "should have" been.
The third looked to me like he forced it. I don't know though, that was was the toughest to tell and also looked to be the dumbest.
Murray is a good QB and he works hard to correct mistakes. This may turn out to be a good thing since it did not hurt us, if he works hard and gets this under control.

  • Just because a linebacker isn't where he's supposed to be doesn't make that throw a mulligan. It's called awareness. Receivers breaking the wrong way, stopping on a route, or falling down are examples of interceptions not being the QB's fault.

Linebackers on the other team not doing what you hoped they would do are the QB's responsibility, no matter the reason. You can blame Samuel for running the wrong route, but he didn't throw the ball.

Murray is forcing the ball and staring down receivers right now. He's got to go through his progressions quicker, as he holds onto the ball too long at times. He has got to play better. That's not speaking bad of the kid, but those are facts. If you took our QB's in the last ten years, Murray would only be rated ahead of JT3 and Joe Cox. He can change that, but that's what it is right now. He is not playing at an all-conference level at this point in the season. Hopefully that changes this week. We need him to step up and take care of the ball.

With that said, if the Oline doesn't pass protect better than they have up to this point he may not see the end of the year. I can't blame him for some of what's gone on as he (like most who watch) have little confidence in the pass protection. They have to do better.

I wish Bobo would give him some roll-outs and quick slants to give him some relief. Some of the called plays take too long for the protection he is getting.

  • ???

Murray's QB efficiency rating is 152.81.
Last season... 154.48 (not far from his current rating where he earned some pre-season honors).
    2009 & Joe Cox...135.92
    2008 & Stafford's Junior season... 153.54
    2007 & Stafford's Sophomore season... 128.92

Murray is making mistakes. No doubt.
But I think expectations on the kid have been a little unreasonable.
Expectations on the entire offense for that matter.

This is the SEC. We keep looking for this perfect game.
It's more than likely not going to happen.
So long as we keep getting wins, I'm happy.

    meansonny

  • FWIW...
Murray has the 2nd highest QB rating in conference play for the SEC behind Brantley.

Great post. Even in Murrays down year he is better than most if not all SEC Qbs. We were extremely spoiled in his first year.

  • Let me say this too. Murray was getting drilled a lot in that first half (and all season). Having played quarterback, that really starts to get into your head, especially the sack where Clowney threw him around like a rag doll and Ingram scored. It's not as much that you don't want to get hit, but you don't want to lose the ball getting blindsided (getting hit really hurts too though).

    DostaDawg

  • As far as QB rating, he is 3rd behind Bray and Wilson (and I think QB rating is a worthless stat in college football because of the diversity of offenses).

What is undeniable is he has twice as many interceptions in less attempts than either of them. He also has a couple of very costly fumbles. QB's have to take care of the ball no matter what level they play.

What's also undeniable is he has 13 sacks. Like I said before, the pass protection is a problem which leads to mistakes as Dosta Dog states in his post. But, holding onto the ball doesn't help. Fwiw, he actually improved on this in the last game.

It's turnovers, plain and simple. I'm not attacking the kid. He does some good things, but he has to make better decisions with the ball. He's got to do better if this team can reach its potential and I'm betting Bobo is telling him the same.

Your wrong. I didn't say a LB wasn't where he was supposed to be I said Samuel wasn't. Short routes such as slant routes are made in a pre play read and then a look at one defender. What Samuel did is pretty much similar to picking the guy up and putting him on his shoulders to be in better position. The linebacker was exactly where he was supposed to be given Samuel's route which was incorrect.
This ain't Xbox or Playstation. QB's don't sit back and make sure every defender is accounted for before making a pass. Bottom line Murray is well coached, and he executed what he was coached to a T. Problem is someone else didn't. Find another play to fuel your Aaron Murray hatorade.
