Martin Kaymer skips one off the water for ...

Amazing hole-in-one at the Masters Martin Kaymer does the unthinkable while attempting an annual tradition at the historic tournament. We live in a world where technology makes it almost impossible for a moment to go by without being captured on video or in a photograph. But for about 10 hours or so on Monday afternoon, one of the most incredible shots in Masters history was nothing more than a story, retold by journalists and fans that actually witnessed the shot happen in person. The shot in question? That would be Martin Kaymer following a Masters practice round tradition by attempting to skip his ball off the water fronting the par-3 16th and get it reasonably close to the hole. But instead of just getting it close on Monday, Kaymer holed the darn thing, watching it trickle into the hole for an incredible hole-in-one. But there was just one problem: Nobody caught the shot on video. Until now. Thanks to former Devil Ball colleague Shane Bacon, he managed to come up with some video footage over at CBS's Eye on Golf (be sure and check out their fantastic work this week), we now have video proof that the shot actually happened. The best part is that it's as good as advertised. Kaymer isn't the first to hole-out on the 16th with a skip-shot (Vijay Singh did it back in 2009), but it's still pretty incredible to watch a guy skip one off the water and watch it disappear into the hole. Is this a sign Kaymer's in for a big week? Who the heck knows. But even if he doesn't make the cut, he still has this shot to remember for the rest of his life. Update: We received some video on Tuesday evening from a guy who was actually on the hole when Kaymer holed the skip-shot, and the footage is even better than the original we had up on Monday evening. Big thanks to Jeremiah Clark for getting in touch with us.At the Monday practice round, Martin Kaymer skips his ball across the water and into the hole on the 16th at Augusta, and the crowd goes crazy. I was lucky enough to be recording at the time.

  • Good stuff, GUBULLDOG20!

Don't know if Martin Kaymer will make it into the Masters, but he'll always have a pre-event shot that is definitely a PART of the Masters event that will be an unforgettable one for him!

    And, good stuff for Martin!

Kaymer has an 8:45 teetime tomorrow. The 27-yr-old will be playing in his 5th Masters, although he has yet to make the cut there.

These PGA guys are amazing. They hit shots all the time that if I could just hit 1, I would write a letter to everyone I know telling them about it.

Art Schlichter's cellmates and Mo Clarett's rugby team believe Ohio State always does things honestly.....

Thanks, furrier, for that update on Martin Kaymer!

Though I usually follow golf better and I'm a big golf fan, I obviously haven't been keeping up with it as well as you have this year; been a little distracted with my surgery.

Thanks again, furrier, for keeping me updated better! Appreciate it!

I did a quick lookup on the Masters site bashful
Recall also that Kaymer has a major victory in his quiver (2010 PGA Championship), so he's no slouch

Glad there seems to be good progress on the recovery

  • Was told about this at lunch. Awesome to see it here, rather than having to find it on my own. Can call it luck if you want, but I find that great golfers tend to get "luck" more often than I ever could.
