New help guys

  • I haven't been back to Athens for a few years and I'm taking my son to his 1st game there this weekend. What is a good spot to park and tail gate? We normally don't get into town early enough to tail gate but we're coming in on Friday. We're checking out the basketball teams friday night and Butts-Mehr friday afternoon. Also is Butts- Mehr still open to the public?

Parts of Butts-Mehre are still open, yes. I think I am there more than my own house..

Hopefully someone will help with the tailgate question. As a sportswriter, that's one thing I don't get to experience.

  • Thanks, G. Being from SW Ga, I used to look forward to reading your work in the Albany Herald.

  • For tailgating, there really are a lot of options depending on what kind of money you want to spend for parking. You can park along Baxter Street at one of the bookstores for $40-$50 and be a stones throw away from the stadium. They allow you to set up tents and grills. Most UGA fans are pretty friendly and will allow you to tailgate with them if you don't have your own tailgating stuff . Our group is in the Boggs Hall Lot at the corner of Finley and Cloverhurst. You are more than welcome to join us if you would like. We just ask that you chip in for food. We will have a group of 20-30.
