New to the board.

  • So let me preface this by saying I left the Vent because it was hard to have a rational conversation, and I'm just looking for honest opinions.

I'm not really sure what the thoughts of most of the posters are on here so just trying to get some posts up since this is a relatively new board. That being said, what does everyone think about necessary staff changes in the offseason?

#1. Don't necessarily have to fire Bobo, I'd be perfectly happy with a demotion to just QB coach. I get it we scored 40+ in the past few games but lets look at that. Vandy and TN suck this year plain and simple. The UK game our offense got the ball inside (too lazy to look this up) UK's 40 3-4 times. Offense couldn't do much when we had to actually drive, until the very end. A couple of years ago we scored at will on crappy teams (with three NFL starters) but when we actually faced a good D (UF, USC, UT (sans this year)) we couldn't do jack.

#2 Every year we hear about Van Halanger taking more and more of a supporting role but I'm not seeing it. S&C needs to be revamped, one of the reasons Kirby Smart backed out.

#3 O-line; when we picked up searels all the LSU fans said our Pass Pro would be great, our run blocking would be meh. Don't know if this is on him or S&C but I don't disagree with them on the most part. I would give him a pass until we have a different S&C program. Just tired of it taking till the middle of the season for our line to gel, year after year.

All the negativity/concern aside, I'm very happy with the way we've been playing the past few games, almost there but not sold on the fact we've turned it around yet after the UK win (put that one on the D), call me cautious, and will feel confident one way or the other after this weekend. Always supporting the DAWGS.

  • Having covered Alabama the past three seasons, I can say the biggest difference I've noticed in the two programs is S&C, no question about it ...

I'm stilll new here, but I've never understood all the venom toward Bobo. Other than maybe limiting Murray a little too much early in the season when the Dawgs couldn't run the ball, I think the offense has been pretty good. And I'll also point out how strong a season Murray himself is having for a rookie. Not a bad job by the position coach ...

Look around the league: No one except Auburn is truly happen with their offensive playcalling right now. It seems to be everyone's favorite gripe.

  • I am not too concerned with our X's and O's on offense. I am concerned with the lack of playmakers. Aj is gone next year and what happens then?

Who's fault is that? We pretty much chose who we get for 85% of kids and the rest we fight like crazy for the rest of them.

  • Definitely worried about AJ being gone even though the "rumor" is he might stay, which I don't believe for one second, but we'll see. Gentry, I'll try to dig up some research in order to better convey mine (as well as others) frustration.

    I know that's out there.

I also don't believe it for one second.

  • Grantulla, is it Bobo's play-calling or his development of players that you don't like? The only game that I took issue with the play calling this year was Miss. St. And also, if you're firing Bobo, who is you're replacement. thanks, i'll hang up and listen.

  • Definitely playcalling. Please excuse the format and brevity of the message, im on my phone. Bobo is just freaking stubborn sometime aka running carolton thomas between the tackles, playaction on every play w/ crappy oline play.

As far as who to replace him the only name that's really coming up is Al Borges... :idk:

  • ok, i'm not trying to be contrary, but i will disagree with you. To me the "stubborness" is one of those good when it works and bad when it doesn't type things. I LOVE absolutely LOVE when is stubborn about running the ball. (i.e. opening drive last year vs. GT, every play, all run calls.) Now, that worked and we didn't throw a pass till late in the 1st qtr, but when we go 3 & out doing that its, well he's so stubborn. The play action passes I have no issue with because when things are clicking that action is DEVASTATING to linebackers. When were running the ball even averegally the lb's have to respect that action and come up to fill, leaving voids for our TE's and middle routes. To me, the UT game this year is a perfect example of this, their LB's were lost every play action pass. And i would say we didn't exactly "dominate" when we ran the ball, but they had to respect that run play action. now, yes, I get frustrated when our offense looks like their hip deep in mud, but I think he's more than proved himself capable of putting together a gameplan, exposing defenses and exploiting mis-matches. He's also pretty solid at adjusting his plan at halftime. just my opinion though brother, we're all on the same team. go dawgs!

  • Those are all good points, I definitely agree w/ you regarding the "stubborn running vs GT." I guess my beef is the stubbornness when its not working. Like I said I still need to go do some research when I get home, for my own benefit and better understanding.

EDIT: And I hope I didn't put out the idea of I didn't want anyone disagreeing w/ me/contradicting

  • No it wasn't that, I'm just with Gentry on not understanding the fury towards him that pops up at some of the wierdest times. We've looked like a well oiled machine on offense this month (with our best player back in the lineup) and you mention "necessary offseason changes" then list him #1. I mean, yeah I'd love to cruise down the field every time like a video game and score 70 a game, but its just not going to happen in this league. he had back to back weeks last year where i didn't understand what we were even trying to do on offense. (lsu-ut) but other than that I like having him on our staff and think he's a real asset. I haven't done reasearch either, but just off of memory, Borges was just a product of having 2 NFL running backs and a handfull of NFL skill guys around him for that 04 season than being a great coach.

  • For the record, I would run the spread!

I get to call the plays at my MVP Camps in the 7 on 7 and I always score in the redzone lol
