  • Why would Dowtin leave? He gets a lot of playing time. That would hurt in terms of our personnel.

Dowtin and Williams both needed to go because of their bad attitudes in the locker room. Ealey is heading that direction as well if he doesn't straighten up.

  • I can see this happening more and more. Players who are not happy with playing time or position, they'll transfer to a lower level thinking they'll be the next Joe Flacco.

Except for every Joe Flacco, there's a Pat Devlin. Highly rated QB who transfers from Penn State to Delaware to be a starter one extra year and still doesn't get drafted this year.

Nowadays, players give up so easily and look to transfer if they are not happy with a decision. I'm not saying these guys should have stayed, but on a larger scale what happened to the days of working to become the best instead of thinking you are entitled to be a starter.

Not saying this isn't the case but I think I read where we wanted Williams to stay. I think in Williams case it was more the constant moving of positions that upset him. I wonder if Ogletree would be at ILB if he had stayed.

    add gray to this too

I hate when we have players leave a program how posters can't wait to jump up and bash them on their way out the door. Whether this is true or not about the 'cancer' stuff in locker room, these young men all chose to be Dawgs and gave a lot of time, energy and effort to our team. Wish them well and move on

That's easy to say when you don't fully understand how bad these guys really were in the locker room. Our coaches gave them multiple chances to "straighten up" and they chose not too. I have no ill-will towards the kids at all, but I am very glad that they are no longer apart of the team.

The problem with Williams (besides his attitude) is that he felt like he was an all-world Safety but he never put in the necessary time to learn how to be an asset in coverage instead of a liability...that is why we had to move him to LB. He tried to depend on his natural athleticism and when it comes to covering Wide Receivers/Tight Ends in the SEC you better have your footwork down and Williams could never fully grasp that. Our coaches explained this to him time and again but it just never fully clicked with him. I am glad that he is getting a chance to further his career somewhere else though.

    Good post.

I, for one, have no problem with telling it like it is over here and hope the board stays that way. Usually when guys leave with a year of eligibility remaining there is a good reason.

This was the point I was trying to make earlier. It takes more than your athletic ability to be good at this level especially in a conference like the SEC.

Outside of Flacco who I mentioned earlier, how many guys have actually panned out transferring to a lower level in college football.

    Cameron Newton? Ryan Mallett?

HA just kidding Aubs and Pigs

I guess you do see guys make a go of it transferring in basketball more so than football.

Define "panned out". Ingle Martin transferred from Florida to Furman, made All-American and played (well, he had a helmet) in the NFL 3 years.

Yeah, that's a good call on Martin.

Wasn't there are QB that left UK in the Lorenzen days that tore it up under Chris Hatcher in Valdosta?

One more: How bout Randy Moss?

Dusty Bonner. Was signed by Falcons and jumped around a few NFL teams.
