VirginiaDawg, great information. I cant really remember what i took when I was younger. You hit the nail on the head with proper diet, sleep and workout! One thing i would add is if you do take creatine, drink plenty of water because it can dehydrate you and bad things can happen.

You absolutely are correct BAKE. Creatine is dangerous. Not one of my favorite products but I have used it in the past with good results when used properly.

  • I don't believe you have to take supplements if you eat right and lift right. Depends solely on how you lift and your calorie intake. Just doing chest and arms won't put weight on you. Believe it or not, doing cardio WILL make you bigger!

  • Go online to vitacost they have same thing as stores but cheaper. I weighed 150-160 5 years ago. I used cell tech creatine and whey protein while working out everyday and shot up to 220 lbs within a year to a year and a half

  • I used cell tech for two cycles my freshman year of college and put on about 12 lbs using it

  • Stick to the basics. First and foremost, take a high quality whole food multivitamin like "More than a Multiple", or "Source of Life". as well as protein, creatine (pre), and glutamine (post). Protein powder is great for post workout, and maybe one other meal. But make sure you try to eat 6-8 oz. of chicken, beef, or fish the other 4 or 5 meals. In addition, eat quality complex carbs (oatmeal is the best). Also take a quality fish oil supplement, in addition to non-hydrogenated fats. At your age, the #1 thing is the best nutrition possible. You are in your prime for muscle growth. You gotta put high octane fuel in a high performance engine!

  • my preworkout is great.. it's called EvoTest. I take it before a workout and it really is a huge help. After my workout i take Aminox. it does a great job helping me recover. at my age my recovery isn't the same as when i was a kid. i also take 3 scoops of Gnc Pro Performance Amp - Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 - Chocolate (which is 1 serving) after my big workout. I have lost some weight and my workouts are improving a lot.

I'm starting to workout to try and gain more muscle. And I was wondering what pre and post work out supplements y'all would recommend. I'm 5'10 200 lbs.

Pre workout... get any sort of NO product... I was always a fan of NO-xplode, but there are alot of choices, try them all until you find which one you like. And of course protein and more protein. When I worked out I'd wake up and have a bowl of oatmeal and 3-4 boiled eggs. For snacks, usually a Peanut Butter sandwich on whole wheat bread(got so sick of these), a salad with a boiled egg or two in it topped with Low fat Italian dressing, after a workout I'd make a baked potato and a skinless chicken breat... any sort of meats are good.. any sort of pasta as well, I also use to take the Omega 3 Fish Oil gelcaps and a broad spectrum Multivitamin is a MUST, I also drank NOTHING but WATER.... theres more but that was my routine, if youd like to know anymore shoot me a PM, I tried alot of different workouts and things like that to find out what worked best for me, working out is a very good stress reliever and of course you feel much better/healthier overall

This was mostly based solely on the types of supplements to take. Obviously you need to have a solid workout plan to go along with it, bicep curls and benching 5 times a week wont get it doneweights

  • Bodybuilding.com has great prices on supplements. I like ON 100% Gold Standard, Dymatize Elite for Whey and Syntha-6 is a good blend, but it's not as lean as the first 2. All of these taste great to me.

I've tried pre-workouts before, and C4 was the best for me. Stims hit me really hard, but C4 seemed to be the mildest to me. My best advice would be to use supplements as SUPPLEMENTS. A good diet will take you farther than supplements alone will. They're not miracle workers. Yes, they help, but you're not going to put on 30 lbs of pure muscle in 6 months. (without shooting up) shake

Notice the guy with awful form doing bicep curls and the 100lb guy with a hat and work out gloves on in the background. So much awesomeness in this photo

Never even noticed the glove dude. Ha. As for the dude doing curls... nothing bothers me more in the gym than seeing someone use poor form. I try to help correct ppl i know, but ive been snapped on 1 too many times from dudes that "know what they're doing".

    SEGaDawg

  • Yeah I never correct people I don't know but I always fix my friends form when I'm with them. They do the same for me. My biggest gym pet peeves are when ppl lift their torso off the bench when benching and when they don't get parallel when they squat.

  • Hemavol pre workout. It's all natural unlike most pre stuff u won't feel like a crack head from caffeine. And dymatize mass gainer 52g of protein per serving its 1200 calories so u gotta stay on it bro. I gained 22 lbs since last Feb. Also took a basic creatine it is stored in your muscles just helps hold more water so you get more production out of em.

    filtar21

  • When i was a gym rat for years there were several peeves and the but off the bench was one of them. I have my own gym in my basement so I dont have to deal with any of the aggrevations, thank goodness. The thing that got to me the most is when I competed in power lifting for a little while back in the late 70's was the steroid use. I dont care that others use the stuff and am not judging. I was in my late teens. I remember i was in a bench tournament at GSU.
I weighed 126# and was in the 132# class. I was up first and did 295#. The dude after me was right at 132# and put up 350# his first lift. I knew he was on the juice and walked out right then. After that I just trained because i love doing. It was so discouraging to find all that out when i was a kid.
Oh well that life and i am proud that I have always been natural in the weight room.

  • For pre I take a scoop of Gunpowder (orange is the only good flavor to me), and I don't really do post as much as I sip on my protein during the workout.

I know a few people who do this. I will never understand how you do it. I can't drink anything except for water while I workout. I puke if I drank any kind of protein powder while working out

I just don't get the thick, chalky protein powders.

I also read somewhere that you should drink another shake the following morning within 30 minutes of waking up.
