So I figure my chances of landing a ticket to the Clemson game are slim to none so I'm planning to meet up with some friends and tailgate there and watch the game on tv. Just wanted to ask if any of you guys are experienced with setting up satellites at your tailgates? I have direct tv so do I need to do anything other than take my receiver and get a mobile satellite and signal finder for it? Also any recommendations on good deals for satellites would be appreciated. My receiver is a model HR21-700. I can't find any concrete answer on if any direct tv satellite will work or if I need a specific kind. Thanks in advance fellas. Man I can't wait for some football! Go Dawgs!
Check out the wineguard portable unit. It is compatible with directv or dish. It will automatically find the signal for you.
Dish has a similar model for dish users.
Thanks for the advice
Not all boxes work with all satelites. If you have a slim line dish it hits all 3 satelites at once. Very hard to setup and as I found out last year the wear and tear at tailgates in loading and unloading them causes issues.
If you call direct tv now and tell them what you are wanting to do there is products for this. Directtv is upgrading all there dishes but if you can find a small old directtv dish either on someone's house that you know that they are no loger using see if they will get it for you. Or talk to a service guy and see if they can find you one in their dumpster from when they go out and bring old ones in. But it also takes a different kind of box. You can't just use one from your house. They are not all the same!
"HOW BOUT THEM DAWGS"
I've done it multiple times. My setup...
- Satellite Dish (Directv)
- Tripod (I'd get one like this...http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-SATELLITE-DISH-TRIPOD-STAND-BELL-DIRECTV-HD-RV-CAMP-BELL-NETWORK-SHAW-ANTENNA-/330966358114
- Satellite Receiver
- Deep Cycle Battery with 120v inverter or Honda 2000 generator
