OT....Why do specialists get crap rating...Rusty/G???

  • I mean really? Kickers, Fullbacks, etc..... We likely got one of the best if not the best place kicker, fullback, and punters and they were all 3 star players. Rusty or Gentry why is it that the best specialists on average are not 4 or 5 star recruits? Just something that has always bothered me...godawgs

  • Fullback isnt an essential position anymore for some offenses like it use to be so they arent looked at as highly or valuable. Kickers and punters arent every down players either and are only called on during certain situations, while they are very valuable and can affect the outcome of a game as much as almost anyone but the QB, they arent the most athletic and dont actually do alot other than kick and punt. Its hard to rank them alongside the athletic every down players. Kind of how Kickers and Punters are very rarely actually picked in the draft.

In the end comparing them to everyone else isnt very important, I looked at how they are rankes among each other, and we got some pretty good ones.

  • A lot of times the same style of grading is done to centers as well. Although, some of the mentioned positions are not every down players, does this also mean that they are not as important. Talent is talent, no matter the position on the field. I just think all players should be ranked for their position and not the position itself ranked. Hope you get what I am saying here.

  • I get it but that isnt the way it is unfortunately. In the end though their rating doesnt matter just their rankings among each other.

  • I hear ya.... In the end we probably got the best 3 star athletes in college football...at their position. Q is going to be a beast. He just looks already polished as far as his strength goes. I cant wait to see the wholes that he makes for the RB's this year.

  • I agree that the best place kickers, and punters should be four stars. Maybe the top five at each position. If a kicker or punter is truly looked at by the recruiting analyst as being among the best in the entire nation at his position how is he a low three star player? Elite is elite.

Kicking is a very important part of football too. I'm not sure of his rating but LSU's punter Brad Wing was certainly worthy of being a four star player. Look at the impact he has on the game.

Also how is it that only the top six centers in the nation are four star players? If a center is looked at as being the seventh, or eighth best center in the entire nation that is not good enough to make him a four star? Centers can be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft. They are an extremely important part of the the team.

If the seventh best center in the 247 rankings actually turns out to be the seventh best 2013 center in the nation in college than I think he is worthy of being a four star player. I know a player is just as good regardless of his rating on a recruiting site. It doesn't really mean anything as far as how good they are or can be.

My understanding is the 247 rankings are somewhat based off of future NFL potential. Place kickers, punters, and FB's aren't generally drafted very high. So by 247's rating standards I guess I understand it. I don't really agree with it but I understand it.
