Outback stirs memories for Grantham

Todd Grantham once shared a coaching staff -- under Alabama's Nick Saban -- at Michigan State with Mark Dantonio. How did those past relationships shape Grantham's path now?

  • Good read. Love CTG and the job he has done with our D. That hire in many ways has saved CMR I'd say.

Think about this for how good the hire was. Given the ties that exist, if Bama and UGA just decided to swap defensive coordinators, who gets the better end of it? I really would not trade CTG for CKS right now. Never would have thought I'd have said that when we first hired him.

If I'm being hoinest I might consider Kirby if only for the recruiting end of it, but yeah, Todd is way ahead on X's and O's because he is doing it all by himself

I think you are WAAAAAY underestimating Kirby Smart and the job he does. No...I know you are. Grantham is a terrific coach, but to imply Kirby is just riding Saban's rep is an undeserved knock against him.

I don't think he's implying that. It's just that CTG doesn't have Little Nicky to fall back on. He's doing it ALL by himself.

  • Kirby has never done anything without tricky nicky. As far as I am concerned, I hope he gets a great coaching job where he goes 0-12 then he gets fired after one year and can never get a job coaching again. Maybe he will have to live under a bridge the rest of his life. There is a special place for traitors like him. He will never be a dawg again in my book. I will take CTG all day.
