Barry Sanders for me, and not sure it's close. No disrespect to the other great backs.

Sanders one season starting at Oklahoma State was absolutely insane. 2,850 rushing yards in 12 games - nuts. Also, 3,471 all-purpose yards and 44 TD's in 12 games.

He would have been the all-time leading rusher in NFL history if he had wanted to.

He should be the all time rushing leader and would be if he hadn't left early. It is too bad the Lions sucked so bad they chased him out of the game and I understand he didn't want to play for just the record, but the only thing he accomplished by not getting the record was to allow a player who didn't deserve it break Sweetness' record.

He's not the only one to walk away from the game.

Jim Brown didn't play past the age of 29.
And he's the only player to average 100 yards per game.

The all-time rushing record hasn't been Browns in a long time.
But it would be scary to see how high it could have been set if Brown had 16 game seasons throughout his career (they were 12 games when he started).
