Why not make the Rose Bowl THE championship game every year? Combined with the location, the weather, and the parade, is there really a better option out there? I would prefer to keep the semis on the campuses, and let the Sugar be a consolation game for the semifinal losers- a warm up to the Rose Bowl show. The rest of the bowls can be what they are now if people insist on keeping them, although I do think a winning conference record should be required to actually compete in a bowl game.

It will need to rotate. It's too much money to the host cities. Also would be an advantage to the west coast teams.

I don't think it's too far to travel. But I do see the NCAA bidding out the championship game.
Why hand over the rights to the game when you can let the fair market maximize the return for the right to host?
There has been the argument that too many teams lose money going to bowl games.
More competition for the best teams will drive up the payouts to the schools.
Every host city knows what the value of this type of event would be to their economy.
Make them put in a bid.

i live 20 min from the rose bowl and sogafan has a point. you really can't imagine the scenery until you see it firsthand. having said that, you have to rotate the game just like they rotate the super bowl. huge for the economies of the host cities, plus the rose bowl is in terrible shape physically and pasadena traffic is a nightmare.
