Running QB's in the NFL..

  • With the success of Seattle,San Fran, Washington etc...
What's everyones take on this trend in the NFL..
I think Luck has the best career of any of the current hot commodities.
RGIII didn't last through the season..Kapperneck looks impressive as does Wilson, but how durable will they be?..Do you design your offense around one guy and fear being an injury away from disaster?
I think Seattle and San Fran both have good defenses which have contributed to their success while the QB's get the publicity..
Luck will be playing for 12-15 years IMHO.
    What say you?

  • Agree with preamble. I guess the question is will the running qb's be durable enough to run the read/option. I think luck can do it but he is almost as big as tebow with of course a beautiful throwing motion and superb ability to read the field. I have lived in sf for a long time and follow the niners. Watching kap is simply amazing. No one realised how fast he is and he is learning to read the field. Is he too thin to take a couple of big hits? Looks like it to me but this guy is a high school legend out here not only did he excell at every sport but he was all conference in three.

I think it is amazing what Luck did with a young O line, rookie RB, two Rookie TEs and a rookie 2nd WR. I think he has staying power for the long haul and Indy is going to be good for quite some time.

  • RG3's shelf life will be half that of Luck. It'll be the exact same comparison between Vick and Brees (who both came into the league together!).

Won't see a running quarterback ever make a 5 year stretch of healthiness in the league, much less a long career of it.

  • Heard one quote about this. "You see a whole lot of great young mobile quarterbacks, but not many old ones." Unless these guys start learning to avoid hits, they won't last long.
