  • I know most of yall been followin UGA recruiting longer than I have and know who really knows their stuff vs. those just making noise, but do yall know anything about Socrates over on Leather Helmet blog? If he's legit he had some good stuff to say on UGA's chances with Patterson. What do yall think?

Hes a good dude. Posts over here under an alias. Knows a lot!

  • He is more than legit IMO. I read over there regularly. 247 + LHB = Happy me

  • well that's what I like to hear. Preciate it boys, and good news on CP!

  • It depends on what you want imo. That site is definitely going to make you feel really good about everything while reading it.

  • Totally legit and you should pay attention the people he talks to as well. Listen to a podcasts....then follow what is said by those boys and then you will see what they are talking about. Don't know if they are always right but they do a good job of providing information as well.

  • I do like that site, little bit too much sunshine pumper for me at times. I like my news straight and for my money Rusty lets me know what is going on in recruiting and has been spot on so far. When all others were reporting that Dillon Lee would visit or flip, Rusty kept saying he wouldnt official visit and he didnt. I mean I don't like that stuff, but I do need the facts and not rumors. Best money I ever spent was on this site in regards to Georgia football.

Yeah, it takes a real "expert" to collect information from all the different pay sites and AJC and keep passing it off as your own.

This isnt true...you don't have to work at a pay site to have sources....and I promise the boys over at LHB are more legit than Carvell who is a hack at best.....I know some of the sources that several of the pay sites use and they don't give information just bc you have a site where people pay. Recruiting sources are just like recruiting itself....all about relationships.

  • There are a ton of areas where credible sourcing can originate.
Some people get them from residents in dorms.
Some get them from insiders at Butts Mehre.
Some things are divulged from family and coaches.

I'm not a big fan of "unnamed sourcing". There are too many bad bloggers out there abusing it for the benefit of web hits.
    But it is a reality.

I really respect G and Rusty because if they have a piece of information from an unnamed source, it is typically lending itself to real follow up journalism (ie. a lead to follow. not a headline to run). Even if the unnamed source is a relative of theirs that they would entrust their lives, I do not see them creating stories that encourage the readers to trust a hidden loyalty.

Again, if you have these "sources" then why do you need a membership here?

Outside of the recruits themselves, their families and their high school coaches, what are these sources you speak of? What about OOS recruits? How do you get that info?

Perhaps Rusty might be willing to shed some light on just how much work goes into providing us with the information he does. Tell me Rusty, how many hours a day do you devote to your JOB?

Because with a job that is six days a week, a toddler, and an infant...I dOnt have time to spend my night ringing the phones....I get emails from time to time but that is about as far as I take it. The folks I know that have inside info have families to and they have enough going on....also I persOnall value the general football/basketball coverage. Best I get is some time on the sites when the family is in bed or the kids are out with wifey....

    Exactly my point.

And even if you did have the time, I doubt very seriously you have the journalistic clout and reputation to provide in depth recruiting analysis.

What the hell does that have to do with having legit sources??

Point being that a pro has time to track stuff down and someone who isn't full-time does not. I get it. Does anyone really think that our coaches would stop everything right now and go "Wait a minute does socrates know about this?" Let's call and tell him. Lol.

I have enjoyed reading various blogs in that past and that has been one of them. I've enjoyed it, good discussion but I don't take what's said that seriously or consider it as the work of true experts like I do someone like Rusty.Like most blogs they are fans behind an alias and any attempt to portray themselves anything more makes me kind of chuckle.

Just speaking for me on this question?

I am not sure it ever stops especially since November. I also own MVP Camps, running camps in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and South Carolina. I see over 2,000 prospects a year through those.

I have traveled to spend an entire day with Avery Young in Fla. I went to Raleigh to spend time with Keith Marshall. I build relationships like all the good ones in the business. I went to see Jordan Jenkins play Basketball. I drove 2 hours on Aug 1st to watch Banneker High School practice(Chaz Elder) at MIDNIGHT to start the season. I didnt get home until 4am. You have to get out and about in this business. If you are not seeing these kids, coaches, parents and others around them you will not last in this industry.

I dont think it ever stops to be honest with you. I have meetings with Rising Seniors guys for next years game coming up. I am going on a week long trip starting a week from Monday to see prospects in three states.

So to answer you question, I am not sure of the time I put in, but I can tell you it really never stops.

Do I really need to expound further? I thought I had stated my point succinctly and concisely.

You know folks that know folks. I get it.

    We'll just agree to disagree.

Just for sheits and giggles, care to give me your prediction on Cordarelle Patterson or Kendarious Whitehead?

I don't care what you do...you questioned why I have a membership here and I gave you an answer.

I know as much about about CP and KW as you do....the original point was that while I am sure Rusty works his tail off he does not have some sort of exclusivity on sources...even ppl who offer info for free can have legit sources. Lowndes25 could start a blog and do the same thing as LHB...just bc he did it for free, would that downgrade his info?? I don't think so.
