Something I've never understood when it comes to CFB...

  • Inflated measurables. Why would a universtiy list a player at 6'2" and 217 lbs, when in reality the player is really 5'11" and around 210? I understand weight can fluctuate, but you don't shrink 3 inches over your college career. If you're a player, you're a player, regardless of height or weight. Its not like the NFL teams these kids are trying to impress won't find out their actual measurables, nor do I think an NFL team would overlook a player based on how big/tall he is. Again, if the kid can play, he can play. Just never understood this practice, though I know that most schools inflate these player's 'stats'.

BTW, the example I used is Sanders Commings. That's what he measured in at at the Sr. Bowl.

  • And it actually goes both ways...if a guy weighs OVER 350, it normally goes down to 335 or 330. I've actually wondered the same thing.

I think there is a mistake in the recording of his height at the Sr. Bowl. Sanders is for sure taller than 5-11. I have stood beside him and we are close to the same height. I am 6-1 and I would say he is 6-1 plus guaranteed. Someone recorded the wrong height for him at the Sr. Bowl. Watch the NFL combine and I bet it list him at 6-1 or 6-2. As for the weight, he could have dropped 7 pounds if he is getting in shape for the NFL combine, or again, someone at the Sr. Bowl could have made a mistake.........

  • there are some advantages in having more 'prototypical' size (regardless of whether its the truth). it effects gameplans.

a more imposing, prototypical player can cause for plans to be shifted (especially at the corner/wide receiver positions.)
