You're calling the other guy a smartass? Are you kidding me?

No, I'm not kidding you at all. Saying "a gun is not necessary on the UGA campus" ranks up there with some of the more dumb remarks I've heard. I'm sure folks said the same thing about Virginia Tech prior to some nut going postal and killing a bunch of unarmed students.

IC may be stupid, but don't make any blanket statements about where you do or don't need a gun. Typically folks that get gunned down don't expect that they might have needed a gun to defend themselves that day.

On a side note, I'm interested to see if the concealed weapon charge gets dropped. The laws in Georgia have changed and AFAIK, you don't need a permit to conceal a weapon anywhere in your vehicle. The castle doctrine was extended to include your personal vehicle, and thus you can have a gun concealed in the vehicle anywhere and it's legal. Obviously the serial# being erased is a big problem though.

  • My question is if it is in fact IC's gun why does he feel the need to carry it. If he truly feels like his life is in danger and he needs to carry a weapon on UGA's campus mind you, there are more serious problems here. Why does this kid feel the need to carry a f**king gun. I am baffled. This makes me sick

Maybe he wants to exercise his 2nd amendment right as an American to do so. The "WHY" doesn't matter. Why are people so anti-carry?

Mind you he wasn't toting this thing on the hip on his way to class... it was in his car.

The only problem was, his car was on campus, and its against the law to have it on campus (a law i disagree with, but there it is)

  • Yes why? I am asking that. I am not anti-carry at all, but there is a process to be able to "carry". The fact that the serial number was scratched off means its probably a stolen gun. This is pathetic.

Not really. You can wear a gun on your hip and walk right into the grocery store with it. Perfectly legal in the state of Georgia. No permit required. You can have a gun in your car, anywhere you please, and it's perfectly legal, no permit required.

Like I said, the serial # being scratched off is a big problem. But he could have bought the gun like that. It wasn't smart if he did, but he's proven he's not the sharpest tool in the shed so that isn't surprising.

Ok i was not aware that was the law in Georgia. In Alabama you must have a concealed weapons license to carry on your person. If you own a gun and don't have the concealed weapons license the gun must be visible in your car. It may not leave the car or your house without this license.

  • I really dont know how to feel about this yet. If we dont know the circumstances then we should reserve some opinions. We will hear more about this.

I believe the fact that he was carrying the gun in a school zone was bad. I could be wrong about that but I think their will be harsher penalties because of it. Even if it was registered I believe he couldnt carry it on campus. I dont know the gun laws like others though.

I have read that Crowell was too young to get a permit to carry a gun in Ga. Is that true? Either way I dont think you can carry a gun onto a campus.

Crowell will get punished regardless of the circumstances. I would just like to know more about the situation. Why did he feel a need to carry a gun? If he was truly in fear for his life for whatever reason I dont blame him for taking steps to protect himself. Maybe he should of went about it in a smarter way. He just has so much to lose. I am not about judging people, and the decisions they make.

From my understanding the coaches cannot speak to the players right now? Only the S&C coach can? That is a stupid rule if true. Mark Richt is all about making these kids into great men. What good does limiting their contact do?

You have every right to exercise your 2nd amendment rights to the extent the law will allow. I have every right to ridicule those that do as the gun nuts they are. Every person I know that carries looks for a reason to use it (their weapon). I have no idea how that supports the notion of carrying in the name of self defense.

    Sorry to get political.

BhamDawg; this is going to sound crazy, I lived in Alabama my entire life and never heard of this, but you do not need a weapons license to open-carry in Alabama. It sounds absurd but it is true.

If you want to, you can walk around anywhere in Alabama with a pistol on your hip as long as it is in a holster, not concealed, and in an area or business that does not have signs prohibiting the carry of firearms. What kind of mindset a person is in to feel the need to walk around with a pistol strapped to their hip, I do not know.

That's one of the most ignorant statements I've ever heard. I suspect you don't know many people that carry.

There's an old lady that lives down near Lakewood amphitheater who collects money for parking down there when there are concerts. She's got a fanny pack full of cash and a .44 magnum revolver strapped to her hip in plain sight. I imagine her mindset is: "Man, I'm carrying a lot of cash and every one of these low lifes slumming around here knows it. Better let them know I'm packing heat as well."

  • I dont think so many should jump to conclusions with their comments right now. All we know was he was arrested for having a gun under his seat. Im sure many of us have been involved in situations that looked very bad if you didnt know all the details.

You dont want to say something you might regret later about Crowell. I wouldnt want people jumping to conclusions about me, and I try not to do it with others.

First, you didn't hear it; you read it. Second, I know 100s of folks who carry. All boast of it and, sadly, all cite times during which they felt compelled to flash their piece to ward off some mysterious threat. The real irony? I'm with many of them often and have never felt threatened enough to need a weapon. Walking the other way (metaphorically) works every time.
